Charlotte
A simple eye test carried out by your optician could pick up Alzheimer's Disease years before it develops and lead to early treatment to stop it in its tracks, claim scientists. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/6988742/Eye-test-could-diagnose-Alzheimers-Disease.html Personally I think I would. Prepare for stuff before I was incapable. But I think a lot of people don't have the stuff upstairs to deal with 'what is to come'. Would you get the test? nevins
Same here, If I had a chance to prepare that means a better future for when the inevitable happens.
Animal
Meh, you wouldn't remember it
Whitesupraboy2
they've said they can stop it or slow it...of course you'll want to know. Ill take the drugs they give me to slow it and enjoy my life, generally dementia only occurs in later life so doesn't bother me
Lbm
No thanks. We all have the possibilities of little nasties occuring in the future - many of which do not come to fruition. All that worry and preparation for nothing eh? Besides, if it turns out in 20 years time I get Alzheimer's, I'll take the cure (they may have found) in 20 years time If they haven't, I'll just rock in my chair and talk to myself out loud a bit, like I do now. Edit: Helpful high street shops or cynical money making ploy?
dangerous brain
Not only would I want to know I do want to know. Alzheimers struck my grandfather down in his late 50's and lasted over 20 years of miserable existence for my gran. It aint funny having to deal with someone that doesn't remember they need to go to a toilet for a crap, especially if they don't remember who you are and fight you off when you try and clean them up. I for one will never inflict that on my loved ones.

Kopite
Optician's aren't allowed to use drops like that though unless they changed the legislation. Some can do an extra qualification to let them use steroid drops etc but most don't as there's still not the same equipment as a hospital. Infra red cameras wouldn't be first choice for a high street as it's expensive unless the PCTs subsidised it

I presume they would if it was something that big - either that or they'd perform the test like retinal screening in an eye clinic.

Yeah that's the problem - there' s similar thing happening for Glaucoma which the hospitals can't handle, loads and loads of referrals a huge back log which has been causing a nightmare for appointments

But where we are glaucoma and retinal screening is separate and retinal screening is a really good system of in and out.
