Nugget
CAN ANYONE HELP?? Took my car into a toyota garage because the brakes were grinding and needed new pads. The garage has just rung me to say that the calipers have seized, the discs are bolloxed and obviously so are the pads!! This is not so bad as i wanted to upgrade the brakes to brembo, however the garage tell me they won't fit brembo brakes only stock brakes for £800! Does anyone know where i can get brembo brakes fitted, which size i should get and who supplies brembo brakes. Or is there another type of upgraded brake system i could try? Thanks Nug x
Dragonball
Whoa there guy Calipers can be un-seized (?) / discs can be skimmed (or new ones purchased cheaply) and pads purchased Beware - sounds a little OTT IMHO If you want a pair of front jap spec calipers - I have some sitting in my hall available now - let me know - to get you through Stock brakes @£800? These jap spec or UK spec? Brembos = £2000+ AP's = £1500+ If you want cheaper options - I got mine from HiSpec in Dartford What will fit under your alloys? Give me a shout if can help Cheers Paul
Terminator
Toyota sell a referb kit for the brakes. I would be very surprised if they were so far gone as to need replacing. I have some stock Jap brakes you could borrow as a temp setup. I think Paul Whiffin may sell what you are after, but you will need the wheels to match. Piran
did they give you the "sucking air through the teeth sound" you get before someone is about to rip you off ? I've had this from garages before - took my car (not the Supra) to another garage who just replaced the pads and all was fine...
Nugget
Thanks Really not sure what to do, the car is still under warranty but covers the calipers only, car is in pieces and Toyota won't let me have the car back, and won't give me a car to drive!! Really pi**ed off !! They are saying that they will only fit their brakes. So basically i feel like i am stuffed. Where in the Essex area can i get Brembo Brakes (or something to tide me over) fitted to my car by Sunday so i can go to Bracknell (If poss, really want to go) Thanks for the help Nug x
Piran
you could always ask to see the damage : if the disks are smooth and unscarred then they should be fine ! if they're doing the callipers under warranty then at least you would have some nearly new callipers to sell when you upgrade. Supra Pilot
Hey Nugget calm down a lil...... Whats this obsession with 'Brembo'.. You were on another thread with these brakes before and was told they aren't that fantastic for what you pay for them! Plus there are 2 offers to you so far on standard brake set ups here...... Never rush this, if you need the car, get a set from one of these good people here to get you mobile and then with the time you can properly check out your Brembo or other options for long term. Chill out............
Alex
Toyota can't keep your car...that's called theft!!! First of all point that out to them... Next find a local garage who will sort your brakes out...anyone can buy brake kits...just call Brembo UK and ask for a local distributer and get em bought (just make sure the rotors you get are grooved and not drilled) expect all this to take 2 weeks....in the mean time Toyota will get very pissed off with having a car blocking up their ramps...if they try and charge you for time...point out that you've made repeated requests for the car to be returned to you!! Once you have a plan get a tow truck to take your car away (they CAN'T argue with this) Get the brakes done and enjoy! At the end of the day though, they cannot KEEP you car. Ask them to put it back together and sign a disclaimer that as long as they put it back together properly you will deal with it. Well that's what I'd try anyway
Terminator
I am going to Grays on Friday night I could bring callipers, pads and rotors with me. If that is any use. If the garage will only fit new stock brakes then you may have a long wait I doubt there will be many Jap spec sets in the county. It may be the way you have to go of the sake of warranty. Need4Speed
Like everybody else I've got a set of j-spec fronts on the bench. Freeing seized calipers is not difficult and if you discs aren't totally trashed they can be skimmed for less than £50. That just leaves pads - you have to buy them. Nugget
You guys are great, thanks! Was getting stressed because I need my car! I don't have any other transport to get to work!! I have spoken to the garage this morning and although they still won't upgrade the brakes, they will get the calipers under the warranty! Not great but at least I only have to pay for the discs and pads! Think I will get them to do it to give me time to decide which brakes to upgrade to. Might still make it to Braknell on Sunday, anyone else going? Nug

Nugget
After deciding to leave my car with Toyota yesterday, so the calipers could be fitted under the warranty, they told me they would not deal with my warranty company! So have moved the car to another garage who will fit the brakes i want. They were great, went and got my car with a low loader for £25! So my next mission is to find the brakes! Any suggestions on the best choice and where to get them? Thanks Nug x
Need4Speed
UK Spec front discs & calipers then speak to Paul Whifin for some pads & s/s hoses. Mine work! s/h warranties always seem to be trouble.
