stevie_b
Might be of general interest. As with all stats, read with an open mind... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8456116.stm MOT failure rates for cars and small vans have been published for the first time following a Freedom of Information (FoI) request by the BBC. (The forum gave an upload error when I tried to upload the Excel spreadsheet that the article contains.)
Gaz6002
I wasn't expecting the Megane to top the list of cars TBH.
Smallshinyant
no jap cars in that top 20 list
merckx
Totally meaningless if it's not related to mileage and how old the car is when it gets an mot test. In a particular year you could be comparing a car that is 3 years old and gets it's first mot against another car that's been around for say 10 years and consequently there'll be many more older cars on the road with higher mileages. Mike
There are some clear patterns here and certainly some Japanese models seem to do very well," said Mr Rosenbaum. I've never had a fail on my old beater
Thorin
no jap cars in that top 20 list There certainly are if you look at the spreadsheet (the Supra had something like a 35% failure rate I believe). Their top 20 only included car models that had over 20,000 tests for 2007, obviously that's not going to include Supra's.
Guest SupraGTE
almost all french brands are in the top
Abz
almost all french brands are in the top Not surprised, the french never really got the hang of using electricity in a car.
Bobbeh
There certainly are if you look at the spreadsheet (the Supra had something like a 35% failure rate I believe). That's probably due to the amount of people modifying the car. I know mines not failed one Same old story tho, French, fords and vauxhalls are the pants, the Jap stuff is the better. Homer
The Supra stats were quite interesting, only 4,160 MOT'd 2007, I had always thought there would be more supra's around than that. The biggest failure causes for the Supra, and their numbers: 1) Lights and signalling (1945) 2) Brakes (1630) 3) Suspension (993) 4) Tyre's (960) 5) Fuel and exhaust (691) 6) View of the road (491)
bradleyh_15
mine failed on tyre's and light position on my 2007 test!
robin
View of the road must have something to do with people putting stickers in windows and blacking them out.

C'mon people, these cars are too fast and too heavy to be neglecting them! Does 6) mean that 491 Supra drivers in the UK have put those sunstrips on them, that probably say "motorsport" or something on them? (I hope not! ) They probably just failed on tinted front windows. Lots of people do the fronts regardless of legal side of things.
Homer
They probably just failed on tinted front windows maybe? Thought about that after posting, most probably tints too dark or windscreen cracks. Still seems a lot though (8% ish)
Guest Budz86
I'd say cracks or chips in the windscreens
Gaz6002
I'd say cracks or chips in the windscreens Why would a Supra be more susceptible to that than any other car?

Well they should be illegal 5) Decat 6) Tints or cracks?
