CJ
I want to buy an amp (probably used) to run a small TV / surround sound (multi speaker really - not truly surround) system. I want something that has a remote for volume and changing input device and be able to accommodate at least 4 input signals. Now, the problem is, I have no idea what to look for in terms of makes or spec. Anybody advise on a cheap solution?
monsween
Define cheap?? I have a Denon AVR 3803 Amp and its FANTASTIC. Managed to get it on ebay for a shade under 200quid. Worth every penny. Its got multiple inputs/outputs. I'd advise getting this as you will want to add to a surround sound system. I started with two speakers. Now its nearly 7.1 surround with a sub :S. All run through this amp.

All run through this amp. I wa hoping to spend under a ton. Not because i am a cheapskate (well OK, maybe just a little bit) but more due to the layout etc of the room. It is only a small lounge of about 4x4 metres with an open archway and a very high ceiling. I will be using the system in winter only (I work 7 nights a week in the summer) and then only for Monday nights (my night off) or for an hour after work the rest of the time. I currently have a small surround sound with amp but it only has one input. I bought a multi input switcher but that is not the best solutio and thought that i could get something better but not expensive. Maybe I am asking for too much - cheap and good? This one http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.206-0497.aspx they do an upgrade for £149 I am not sure that would work I currently have a Philips HD TV with AV, Component and Scart input. I also have a ext HD that sores files and plays them direct through the TV (shown here and an upscaling DVD player. I currently run the Trekstor via AV into the TV with the audio plugs going direct to the switcher box and then to the suround sound output device. The DVD runs to the TV via a HDMI cable with the audio plugged direct to the switcher too. The problem with this is A. I don't have a remote volume control for the surround sound output and B. I don't have a remote control to switch inputs either. Looking at that Tesco offering, I don't think it will have multi inputs I need.
