Matt H
I'm 3 weeks into my first month of ownership of my iphone. According to my usage records I've used about 700mb of unlimited internet, which is subject to a fair use policy of 750mb per month on Orange (how they can call it unlimited and get away with it is an entirely different thread!). I've taken a look at Orange's terms and conds and it's better than I thought; at least I won't get charged! http://www1.orange.co.uk/mobileterms/pay-monthly-iPhone-terms.html My question(s) however, is(are) to those users that have had their iphones for a while: Have you exceeded the fair use limit at all? Do you do it regularly? Have you had an consequence in doing it? Just wondering whether I should go ahead an use my phone as I wish for the remainder of this period, or take it easy... Maybe they won't be so hard on me as it's my first month? Ta Matt
RiceRocket
Are you looking at a lot of "videos" then? I'm on T-Mobile and their Fair Usage(1GB) policy says it not bad to occasionally go over the limit but it is if you're doing it every month. I think they'd just take the internet usage allowance off you.
Matt H
I think they'd just take the internet usage allowance off you. How would that work? You'd be left paying for something you don't have?
ellis
Try using WiFi wherever possible and keep off the 3G connection
RiceRocket
How would that work? You'd be left paying for something you don't have? Probably not a good answer I gave there, had a little look at terms&conditions; This plan comes with a fair use policy of 1GB a month. We'll monitor how much you send and receive each calendar month so that we can protect our network for all our internet customers. If you use more than your fair use policy amount, we won't charge you any more, but we may restrict how you can use your plan, depending on how often you go over your amount and by how much. Matt H
Try using WiFi wherever possible and keep off the 3G connection That's a good point. My internet is down at home at the moment which I quess adds to the problem as I can't connect to that at the moment.
ellis
It will, WiFi through your home broadband connection is free and doesn't touch your allowance!
clarky666
You're probably looking at being charged around £1 per 100mb you go over as a rounded up figure if thats what you're looking for ?
DekJZA80
Yup like the others have said, try using wifi when at home( when its workin) and also when your out & about theres loads of free "hot spots" etc to use......that way you dont touch the allowance Dek. Supradoopa
I've had mine over 12 months (o2)and i've hammered it on the internet loads. I didn't even know there was charges, guess I should have a check. Point is i've never been charged any extra for internet usage.

I don't think that's correct. If you look at Orange's terms and conditions (linked in the initial post), It only talks about limiting your service etc; nothing about being charged. Were have you got that from Clarky? I've had mine over 12 months (o2)and i've hammered it on the internet loads. I didn't even know there was charges, guess I should have a check. Point is i've never been charged any extra for internet usage. I'm not sure about 02, but see my above response to Clarky. It doesn't seam you can get charged on Orange. RedM
Vodafone show my internet usage on my bill online, most i used was 54mb in one month. 54mb? Wowzers!! I could probably do that in a hour at home. Are there 'special' versions of sites for phones that don't take up as much bandwidth or is it just to do with not using the net so much from a phone? Matt H
Where can I view my own usage records? Settings > General > Usage. It's then under Cellular Network Data. You get 'sent' and 'recieved', which I quess you add up to give you your total usage. I plan on resetting mine each month to give me my new allowance each period. Gives you calls too, athough this is in hours so you have to convert.

I use the net quite a lot but I make sure I'm on WiFi if downloading anything large. Otherwise I DL on my PC and transfer it across with iTunes. Jake
You must spend a lot of time staring at your phone! Do you not have a PC at home and work? The iPhone is a good toy but its no replacement for a proper monitor - and 3G is a poor substitute to broadband.

I do have a PC at home, but the tinternet is down. Has been since before xmas, but we get BT 20mb on Friday. Trust me, I know what a ball ache not having the internet is. And yes I have tinternet at work, but 99% of websites are blocked. P.s, Can I have some or your allowance Jake
