csa
On an Exedy carbon twin disk, would it be fair to assume that it's the Intermediate plates that wear out first, or would it be the actual carbon plates. I'm thinking that the carbon plates should outwear the steel Intermediate plates easily. What's your experience on this, and had any of you guys ever replaced either on your carbon clutches? Chris Wilson
I have no experience of carbon clutches in road cars, proper race ones are shimmed, AP has various publications on using and checking them, for example: http://www.apracing.com/drawings/p14068.pdf I suspect the Exedy one won't be very similar at all though, I recall seeing a photo of an Exedy carbon clutch and it looked like like a normal multi plate with funny linings. Exedy are local to me, but their products seem to go out of date very quickly so you can only get spares and info on very recent products. If I had to guess I'd say the carbon and the steel plates wil wear at fairly similar rates, and the steel ones may be prone to warpage. AP carbon clutches need specialised care, and when worn, specialised set up back at AP. They are seriously costly, this is quite a cheap one: http://froogle.motorsportworld.co.uk/framefix.asp?PID=1075954&ProductCode=CP7923-GH03-FN Edited January 12, 2010 by Chris Wilson (see edit history)

Chris Wilson
Looks like you have had that nice and hot! They should be able to give you minimum thickness figures for the plates, and how flat they need to be, so you can check the parts in used clutches. Giken give these out I know, I am sure Exedy will have them, give them a ring!
csa
It's a clutch I've bought 2nd hand with refurb in mind. The clutch was slipping when it was removed, that's probably why it's been so hot
Chris Wilson
Go here, I'd ring them up and ask if spares are still available, your English seems more than up to the task http://www.daikinclutch.co.uk/index.php?main_page=technical_info
csa
top man :-) I'll give the a ring once the clutch arrives here and I've been able to inspect it and take measurements. Language should represent no significent problem...
