gt4tosupra
just have a question about winter tyres, do they work or are they a waste of money? I've put a for sale ad up for the car cos the snow is that bad up here the car hasn't moved for days and its a real struggle getting to work etc! If they do make a biggish difference then ideally i'd rather keep the car, the option for me is going back to a gt4 cheers, Craig
michel lane
I recently bought a set or verdestine extreamX winter tyres for my honda civic, i previously had the Verdestine summer on the car with about 6mm of tread, the car went all over the place and i got stuck sveral times. I changed over to winter tyres and what a differance it made , been up banks were people got stuck and slid down, in our car par there was around 10 inches of snow , my wifes car got stuck and the staff that work for me got stuck aswell. I drove in and out as though there was no snow. So yes , i would always have a change of tyres for the winter months on all my cars now, after experiancing this. They are the same price as my summer sets, i will have to swap them around when when the summer comes, as the compound is extreamly soft. dr_jekyll
your better off geting a set of winter wheels. narrower wheels all round with m&s winter tyres , that will sort ot out
tony tt
I would hold onto it mate you wont be the only one having problems with the snow. Narrower wheels would be the best bet than winter tires. What wheels do you have? The snow will be gone soon enough if you sell it you will miss it when the roads are clear. I've currently got 18 inch wheels with 265 35 18 on the back, federals they are! Will changing the back 2 tyres only make a good enough difference? Also as previous post said about the honda civic, fwd, would it still be very hard work on the supra being rwd with winter tyres?
michel lane
A supra is just like a BMW, the narrow wheels wont make any difference unless you use winter tyres. Have a read on the compound they are made from, normal tyres go hard below 6 degrees C, this means it like running on hard plastic. I did look into it and i thought about using small tyres, but if my wife C8 cant get off the drive with 205/60/17 eagle F1 then it wont be that. I replaced the two fronts with winter tyres and yes it has made a large difference. But every one has there own opinons.

M&S is Mud & Snow, you will definately notice a difference with winter tyres even with rear wheel drive.

snake
leave the supra in the garage [waste of time to drive in 4 inches of snow/ice] and get a go anywhere front wheel drive 1.3 fiesta. You might even be able to buy one for less than the price of a set of tyres. HadeS
Hehehe. I've just come back from holidays from Poland. In germany we get into the blizzard. You could not see for more than 10 - 15 meters. People with normal tyres been doing like 30 - 40 mph where we where doing about 80 - 90 on winter tyres with no issues. It does make a diffrent ;]

CJ
which tyres r u running then mate? Would i be ok just to change the rear ones only? By the time you have finished chatting about them on here, deciding which to buy, buy them and get them fitted the snow will have gone! Gaz6002
You wouldn't drive an Aston in the snow, either.
HadeS
Sorry I did not point it was a Toyota Celica FWD. But as soon as I'll come back to home I will try to find four for mine. I'll be looking for something like 165/80/16. But that for proper winters.
Sharpie
which tyres r u running then mate? Would i be ok just to change the rear ones only? Would you not have an imbalance in grip levels from front to rear if you only did the rears ? http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m11b0s0p0 I don't see any recommendations yet, for good quality winter tyres....Ibrar ? Possibly, but i'm thinking sort the driven wheels out as a priority! Then i can actually get out of parking spaces and back roads etc!
