jimojameso
I know this has been covered before and i have searched already. I have a getrag 6 speed and was going to put the toyota stuff in. However looking on whifbitz its £48 a litre!!! When you look at the other oils on the market this sounds a bit on the excessive side!! What oil should i get and from who should i get it online? Thanks

dude
Getrag reccomend dextron 2 then everyone says oh no the toyota stuff has special additives etc, maybe we should ask Kranz if he can test some bog stock Dexron and some Toyota V160 oil. BTW my gearbox has dexron in it with slick 50 additive.
Scooter
This is the way I look at it............. Engine and gearbox and worth roughly the same (possibly the gearbox is more costly) I'm not sure of the exact intervals but over say 20K miles you'll probably spend (or should do!) and not think twice about it, far more on synthetic engine oil than the £100 (i think 20K miles is ok?) you need to spend on the gearbox oil............so I just bit the bullet and got Paul's original stuff. monsween
Is it just me or does the toyota replacement stuff seem to have an offy watery type consistancy rather than a viscos oily type?
Scooter
spose it depends what you are comparing it to............the V160 stuff is thinner than the Toyota Type iv AFT old thread with unscientific V160 vs type iv aft comparison
Guest v8soarer91
people in drag racing and very high hp dyno cars (titan motorsports) use Redline Shockproof gear oil in their manual toyota boxes (W and R series). http://www.justjap.com/store/product.php?productid=17082 http://www.titanmotorsports.com/redline.html http://www.gasmotorsport.com.au/index.php (aussie version of titan, use the sponsored motul) Edited January 9, 2010 by v8soarer91 (see edit history)
nigelboyne
if toyota v160 is ready avaiable then use that. in ireland its impossible to get. however v160 is superseeded now. there is better out there or equilvant toyota type iv and mobil shc. but any atf should be fine. the most important thing is not to use MANUAL GEAR OIL
Ganty
i used this recommended by opie oils and had no problems http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-966-fuchs-titan-atf-3000-multipurpose-dexron-ii-atf.aspx
