eyefi
have a look at this and see what u think. whats the differance between this and the erl system?
Alex
Allows power levels of up to 800RWHP on the stock fuel system, with pump gas. Yeah right!!! Dream on... The ERL system could do it...you would just fill the tank with Methanol instead of water...not sure it would upset the fueling though. eyefi
its using a system like the erl, but rather than using it purely as a charge cooler, its being used also as a fuel system. what i dont understand is why build a new injection system, the only reason i can think of is delivery. i think erl recommend a 50/50 water meth mix max. this guy is running 32psi from a t78 with a stock injector duty cycle of 60%, so this system must be providing alot of the fuel. it seems like a good solution to me, run on petrol off boost, and on boost start dumping loads of methanol in. id b interested in anyones reasons why this wont work. Alex
Hmmm my response was posted as soon as I read "800RWHP" Having said that...how big is his tank gunna be...Methanol is required in twice the capacity of petrol. Yeah it would last a drag run...but that's it. Not very streetable IMO. Has anyone tested running 100% Methanol on an ERL system? Does it affect the EGT's or mixture significantly on a stock j-spec system? I don't have the gizmo's to do the test....unless you all wanna chip in, in the name of science!! Brian Jackett
When I looked at using methonal (I even ordered 25 ltres but did not pick it up and sold it to Justin) In the water injection system I fitted to my Supra the health warning put me off. Now I am no square when it comes to don't do that its dangerous BUT this stuff, if you spash it in your eyes it can blind you. The vapour from it alone is extreamly dangerous. If you have got kids then the risk to there health is high. I IMHO don't beleive the health risk is worth ignoring from what is prob very little gain in Power. Just buy some bigger turbos, I advise the ones that allowed Christian to reach in excess of 20mph faster then my 355 over the same distance. P.S. I did explain the health risk to Justin but he bought it anyway. :flame Dev
eyefi
to make big power ur gonna (not necessarily, but u know what i mean) have to use some quite nasty fuels, petrol's not very nice stuff in itself, toluene, leaded race gas, any fuel enhancers, all bad stuff. i know what u mean tho, burning with an almost invisable flame in daylight is pretty nasty. he's using the stock wiper res, and reckons it'll jold enough for 30+ hard runs. im not sure if u read the full thread alex, but this is not a standalone system as such. its used in conjunction with aem ecu (advanced timing, where alot of xtra power will come from, & the meth injection control), big single turbo, fmic. what interests me with this is how viable a system like this is for a support fuel system (in a less extreme situation eg jspec with big hybrids), not just a charge temp cooler and det defender. one problem i first thought of was the even delivery of the meth to each chamber, but he reckons most the meth evaporates (meth evap rate 4.4, petrol 1) which should result in an even distribution. it all sounds very risky to me, but also very interesting.
