stuohy
Hi all, I took my car for its MOT just before Christmas and it failed on a couple of things. The garage I took it to quoted me a ridiculous price for the work, so I took the car back and booked it into another garage at a much better price. However, the day it was due in it snowed and nothing got done; then Christmas happened and I've had to book it into yet another garage to get the work done (and another MOT). Just got a phone call from this garage stating that they've fixed the things that it originally failed on, but it has also failed as the front brake hoses are split and it would cost me £215 for them to fix it... I rang around a bit and got them down to £150. Does this sound like the original garage missed this (and should I bring this to their attention), or more like they are trying to get extra money from me? I would have thought that if the hoses were about to go, the original garage would have issued an advisory? Any advice greatfully received! dr_jekyll
it would pretty shody for a tester to miss any brake or suspension faults, but whos to say it could be either and i dont think youl ever know now
SteveC
All MOT stations should get the same result when they test the same car - but they often don't. If a garage is very busy they may let some relatively minor fault go and give you an MOT. On the other hand, if they're short of work (and think you'd possibly have the car repaired there), then they may fail it on everything they can find to get the work. Only go to a garage you can definitely trust. Ask around for recommendations...
Tony
Ask for all the old part's ie: hose's ask them to show you what's wrong with them, as for 1st mot difficult to get anywhere now you have had it repaired. If you appeal a mot you cant have the repair's done until V.O.S.A have carried out an inspection of there own.
stuohy
Thanks guys; when I pick the car up later I'll ask for the old hoses. If they genuinely are split, I'll let the other garage know that they missed it! Cheers for the help

Tricky-Ricky
You can buy Goodriidge braided hoses for around £50 a pair, Unless you can do the work yourself, then garages have you over a barrel, as said try and find a decent recommended one. Chris Wilson
I can do a full car set of stainless braided lines for £69 plus carriage, or I will have some good used stock rubber hoses for £10 each plus postage. Postage would be £5.80 insured.
