Homer
Seeing as my Supra is likely to only get driven 4-5 times a year I don't really want to have to shell out near £400 insurance for the year. Instead I'd rather do a 3rd party only day rate as that only costs £25 each time it's used (car only needs to be taxed and MOT'd and be registered to me to qualify). However, the car currently has no tax and the post office needs an insurance certificate to get one, is there any workaround to get a tax disc? SIMON LC
No way round this one unless you take a policy out and tax it,then cancel your insurance straight away.
nevins
Thats an easy one, find a friendly car sales and ask them to tax it for you as they can do it with their insurance policy, I had to do it this way as I had the wrong log book when my car was bought. merckx
Go to http://www.mastercover.co.uk mate you can buy one day insurance and that is enough to tax your car with. I've just tried, they won't insure it as it's 10 years old or more.
Konrad
Never had any problems with taxing cars using traders insurance. Cars do not have to be on your name as you may want to sell them straight away after buying from someone else. Post office have no right to refuse taxing vehicle with MOT and traders insurance. Homer
Tried the trader insurance thing through a couple of mates just before Christmas but it didn't work. The car needed to be registered to the company and/or company owner. I don't want to register the car to someone else. Likewise merckx, mastercover doesn't work due to the cars age. Guest Suprafly
It wont update in time. You could contact your insurance provider, add Homers reg, get a covernote then tax it.
Konrad
I wonder if i put your car on my traders policy for a few days if then you will be able to tax it online? It takes up to 10 days to update, usually around 3 days in practice.

Homer
Decided I'm going to insure the car, even though Sky have come back with £470, ouch So, next question - can I drive the car to the MOT centre with no tax disc? The various police force websies and DVLA are a bit vauge, though the few force ones I've found have stated that it is allowed to drive to and from a pre-booked MOT with no tax disc displayed.
