Guest daz 6576
my supra is missfiring from when you start it and ive changed the spark plugs and the back 2 spark plugs were alot worse than the front 4. when i check the coils when the engine is running the front 4 are ok but the other 2 dont seem to make a difference. ive also tried putting different coilpacks in as i have a couple spare and this does not cure the problem any ideas anyone cheers daz
Paul Whiffin
Coil pack clips all ok? What colour are your spark plugs when you take them out?
Guest daz 6576
the front 4 looked not too bad but the back 2 were more black and the piece at the end were slightly melted back a bit so there was more of a gap when it sparks if you know what i mean. if the back 2 arnt making making a difference when unplugged then could there be a problem with the loom ? or if there are 6 clips in all, do they have some type of fuse for each 1. or each 2. cus its just the back 2 thats the problem. i cant see it being anything to do with pistons or anything like that bacause its just been rebuilt not long ago. i think its an electrical problem. and the boost gauge is flickering all the time even on tickover if that helps Edited January 8, 2010 by daz 6576 (see edit history)
miko_supra
What happens when you swap the coil packs over?
Guest daz 6576
its just the same
Chris Wilson
It's melted a valve or piston by the sound of it, as well as a plug tip, the boost gauge reflects the unequal vacuum pulses. Leakdown and endoscope tests should confirm.
Paul Whiffin
its just the same I'd be doing a compression and leak down test myself.
supraman382
Worrying thread..mine seems to have similar symptoms; New plugs were fitted and that sorted the missfire for a couple of weeks then it came back. Have replaced a couple of bad looking connectors and swapped coilpacks around and it is the same cylinder with the missfire. I now have an engine warning light, how do I see what the fault code is? Is there anything that would have caused a melted valve or piston? Adam
supraman382
Just to add, the warning light is the picture of the engine, I looked at an old thread and it relates to; Engine/Gearbox Symbol - Malfunction Indicator Lamp.... Any thoughts? Thank you
hadyn
Christ, you dont hear of many Supras with melted pistons/valves on stock turbos *edit - I see in your garage you've gone single, that will probably be why then

supraman382
Thank you Chris, thought this might be the one to look at...the orange check engine light was permanently on whilst the engine was running not after I started to perform a diagnostic check..is this normal?
