Motul 300V Power Worth the expense?

I'm keenly aware at this time of year that this is one of the more expensive engine oils, the 5W-40 version sure is! Is it worth the additional expense over some of the cheaper and equally well known brands on my stock TT motor?

It's £76 for 6 litres when i could get some good ol' magnatech for almost half the price, opinions welcomed :)

I use Silkolene - its a fair bit cheaper than that.

Others use even Halfords without any issues. Really depends on what you feel is the right amount to spend on oil and how often.

I am not a believer that one oil is significantly better than another for normal day to day driving. Perhaps for Le Mans 24 it would be a different story :)

Does that mean this sticky is wrong???

http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=56684

I have just changed to silkolene pro s 5-40 and have 6ltrs sat in the living room.

Nope sticky is fine.

5W should be fine - I mis-read the original post - thanks for pointing it out.

I wouldn't recommend 0W, although some member do use this in their car.

I personally stick with 10W - car has been using it for the past 6 yrs and generally happy with it.

Personally for an engine that's stock or just got no cats or similar I think it's very OTT. Any decent fully synthetic is fine. The ester based expensive stuff is really made for engines seeing serious stress and potential oil temps, in a race environment. 5,000 mile or annual changes of a decent branded synthetic should be more than enough. But if it makes you feel good? :)

spot on its the reg change is far more important then brand. stock grade my manual says 10w/30. i use 10w/60 shell ultra racing.

Well, having read the comments here i plumped for Silkolene Pro S which is a huge amount cheaper. I don't trust the Toyota garage a huge amount since they went joyriding in my MR2 a few years ago, so i'd rather give them my own oil than let them use their own.

OMG, if a garage had been joyriding in my car they would no longer be doing anything on any of my cars ever again

I use the Motol 15/50 V300 in my car but thats because I have seen high oil temps and the car is only really used for track days. Before that I used the Silkolene Pro S too :)

Motul is one of the best oils in the business, you pay for what you get in this world like most things, take a look on there website and see who uses Motul in the racing world, should answer most of your questions.

I keep it all in stock as well, 6 litres would be £56.40 inc VAT. I also keep the 8100 series as well which is "normal" synthetic, thats what we normally use in BPU/NA Supra's, thats £42.30 inc VAT.

Any questions just ask.

For stock cars use what Toyota recommends, the engine was designed to use it.

All toyota recommend is a basic visocisty and spec. This is the minimum to be used on an engine, anything quality wise up from there is a bonus and down to the owner.

Blimey Paul, thats some cheap 300v? I might start buying it off you at that price! ;)

To the OP. The 300v is great stuff but compared to their competitors are generally over priced.

Cheers
