Poor new plasma........

The worrying thing for me is these "large TVs" have been out for years now, & the shops will have every trick in the book played on them. They will be prepared for this sort of thing (esp against customer transport), and I don't think an "It was broken when we opened the box" excuse will wash here

I know what u mean mate - but it was.

Surely the fact they cant gaurantee it wasnt damaged in store by showing it to me is enough?

The problem is because it's a plasma the screen is actually a sandwich of two sheets of glass, the weight of the glass makes it very susceptible to shocks when not held vertically, and they have to be transported upright. most screens are either shown to you before you take them away (although most places won't let you take plasmas yourself) or they have tilt sensors on the packaging for you to refuse delivery if the tilt sensor is activated.

You might drop lucky if you spot the assistant who helped you load the car and point out that he said it would be okay when it most definitely shouldn't have been.

I very much doubt not showing you it in store will make a lot of difference :(

As Gav says, I would be inclined to look at your house contents insurance as I think that may be your best option.

I went in yesterday to buy this TV, ended up buying the LG 50" on offer (£699) as it had a faster refresh rate, however I paid the 19.99 for the "follow you home" deal, it was at my house in 1 hour, good service

They did try to leave without opening the box and wanted me to sign "delivered unopened", I told them I wanted to see it open with them there so they could remove if damaged

I hope it works out for you, I am very happy with the LG if you fancy taking it back and paying the extra £100 for the upgrade

Thanx mate thats a Good service. If id been told of iti would have def used it. And will do in the morning if poss.

I just hope its a simple exchange job.

The glass on the outside is mint, its the inner screen thats gone.

Only signed for their pay over 10months plan.

I would read, in detail, anything you signed, looking for clauses with regard to transportation of the item.

As I say though, I fear that this item is so old now that they've seen it all and you'll have a battle on your hands to prove it was "their fault"

I'll be on their doorstep at 9am. Battered tv in hand.

Read what ive signed nothing to do with transport only about the payment plan. Also read their entire t&c's online and no mention of not bing covered if u drive it home.

Plus the bloke loaded it that way into my car - then rested the stand against the box. I then asked the sales guy if it would be ok - he said yeah just dont go over any big bumps.

My advice for you is to say that the store workers loaded it into the car and they said it was safe for you to drive. If you go back to the store ask to see the store manager. Do not speak to no one else and make sure he does not take you to the side to deal with it.

Make it clear that it was carried into the house by more than two people, as company policy rates a 50" screen as a for man lift due to weight and size of the unit. The reason I can safely give you this information is the fact that I worked for currys in my last job, I was the ASR for them In charge of flat screen repairs, installation, and customer services for wales and the west. They may try to say that its not their fault, but if they do make it clear that the store workers that loaded it in the car said you were 100% safe to drive with it in the car the way they loaded it.

If they say that a team will come to collect it, then you will have the tech guys coming to collect it. Before they arrange the visit make sure that they say they will be bringing a replacement on the same day. otherwise you will be left without a unit, until they agree it is a BER, ( Beyond economic repair)

No doubt they will change it for a new unit as the screens for a plasma cost a ridiculous amount and they tend to exchange rather than fix as this also messes with the workshops numbers and the shop manager gets it in the neck. Did you take out the cover plan?

You shouldn't have any problem with getting an exchange if you deal with it the way I have said. DSGI aint to worried about a claim like this due to the mass number of units sold on a weekly basis.

I will tell then they never showed it to me, and that 2 people helped load it in my car and said it'd be fine to drive like that. He even rsted the stand against it :(

im just about to put it back in my car and drive down to brighton with it.

Glad its worked out ok for you mate, Always travel with unit as upright as possible, this is due to the screen. The way they are designed, if you get any flex in them you then get faults with the screen from internal disturbance most common sign of this is patches and bulls eye effect.

Thanx so much guys. We cut the top of the box so it was totaly upright in the jeep. I drove all the way home @ 45mph!!

Got home and now its all good. Well well chuffed good start to the year!!

My only issue now is i cant get the surround sound to work unless im playing a dvd. I bought the extra red/white cable to hook it up to the tv so i could get the sound watchin sky but the speakers arent working :search:
