Guest Suprafly
Had the car out yesterday after almost 2 weeks of sitting on the driveway due to the snow, and sometimes my steering was heavy and warning lights illuminated on the dash, so I'm thinking it probably needs fluid, but which type? Can I just use any, or is there a recommended specific type?
Nic
For all your fluid needs, see here http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=56684
Chiefgroover
Your fluid is 13 years old if it has not been changed. I'd change it, that way you have very little chance of the rack or pump going as the fluid wont last forever. Cheap in the long run.

Guest Suprafly
Right, The car has been in the garage all day having the suspension changed, I called them asked the guys to take a look at the power steering, they didn't have all that much time but they tested the alternator whilst turning the wheel, the reason they did that was because of these warning lights when the steering goes heavy, and they found that the charge was going as low as 12v, then going back up to 13v. So because it was getting late on I've left it overnight and they're going to have a proper look tomorrow. Does this sound like maybe it could be the belt slipping? Why the warning lights aswell? Scooter
Alternators have been known to sieze, i'd get them to remove the aux belt and check all the accessory pulleys individually and inspect the crank pulley carefully
Guest Suprafly
Turns out it was a low charge in the battery, due to the car basically standing for the last two weeks or so, today I took it for a good run out to give it some charge and all is ok. The car shows none of the afore mentioned symptoms now.
