Dragonball
The daughter has decided she wants a ford focus...apparently a friend is ford mechanic etc. and needs the bigger car. No idea about model - but suspect insurance will be an issue Anyone looking to sell one please let me know - She has saved up her pennies and I suspect budget will be about £2-2.5K Anything we should look out for when buying please? Cheers
Guest MoeBlunt
i heard these engines tend to burn a bit of oil...so look out for a smokey exhaust!
ManwithSupra
Get a deisel one.... good prices, encomonical and not to slow. I have a Focus II 2005 1.8Tdci for my daily driver and usually get about 60mpg. For a Oil burner its pretty nippy so can have a little bit of fun (quite fun in 2nd and 3rd), they handle quite well and comofortable, big boot, nice interior etc. Mine was £5.5k with a warranty and 65k miles on the clock so you should be able to get a really good low mileage example of the model before for about £2k In terms of things you should look out for.. I have heard that the wheel bearings can be an issue, If you get one coming up to 70k miles then probably at least one of them will be on the way out, so give the wheels a good shake and check for knocking. Abz
They are pretty simple cars so the usual checks when buying a car. I picked up a 2001 Petrol 1.8 for £1,800 with 70k on the clock a few years back for a friend & seemed a pretty nice car. Insurance shouldn't really be an issue as they are normally insurance group 6-11. If something does go wrong they are pretty easy to repair & parts are readily avaliable. creativename
Iv sold ford's for years. There's no major faults to look out for, just do as Abz said.
movistar
Go for the 1.6 petrol or the 1.8 tdci if you can afford it...I've been working on these for as long as they have been out and they are a brilliant car to own. Ghia or zetec spec on the older models are really smart... Iam also on the look out for one too, as i need to update my daily driver.
AndyT
Excellent choice. Focus has won numerous car of the year awards for good reason. I reckon the 1.8 Tdci will be pretty darn quick too.

Barney
The fly wheels are known to be faulty on models between 04-07, not cheap to replace. My stepson recently bought one (1.6 Zetec) thankfully the dealership replaced it. The story goes that a faulty batch of fly wheels where to blame.
