Guest mak0101
Hello guys, hope everyone had a food xmas! im new to supra owners club, bought my 2nd supra a month or so ago, but in the last few days i have isolated a squeaky noise coming from the front, top right hand side pulley. i always let me engine warm uup on start..this squeak starts after a few mins and does go away slightly when warmed up but not completely only goes after a bit of WD40 is applied...does anyone have any idea what needs to be done; i dont want to have to lube the pulley all the time. any suggestions guys? Thanks Mak 93 MK4 Toyota Supra, N/A, Auto!
Terminator
Hi and welcome. It could be a number of things. An over due belt change. Old dry belts often make much more noise in winter. Check that none of the pulleys are wobbling, especially the crank pulley.
Guest mak0101
Hi Phil, thanks for that! the cambelt was chaged about 8K Kms ago by last owner so i doubt it needs changing. if any of the pulleys are loose, is it an expensive job to replace? can the suspect pulley just be replaced or do they all have to be done? is there a quick fix? thanks
Rob_Mitchell
just check if they are all tightened up, i had a similar thing but my auxillary belt was slipping causing a squeek, not sure if it was old age of the belt but i changed it and the squeel has now gone. Scooter
click this link for some good info... http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=172527&highlight=tensioner if the belt has numerous cracks as shown in one of the pics then you might as well try a replacement
Pudsey
I think that you will probably find its your power steering pump doing the squealling rather than any belt.
a98pmalcolm
yer mine is doin it! its at he powersteering pump. if i apply WD-40 on where the pully connects to pump it goes for a day or 2! But im not getting any of he WD-40 on the belt! so its an issue with that pully! Anyidea how important it i to get done?
Guest mak0101
thanks pudsey...the timing belt was changed about 8K kms ago and i dont know about the aux fan belt looks in pretty good condition too so i think it may not be a belt...right? thanks for the info guys! i was listening to the car today aswell, along with the squealing sound, there's like a light 'clattering' sound coming from near the top front end of the block just above the TOYOTA 3000 sticker!...its probably does it for a few secs then goes away for about a minute! do you think it is the PAS pump and the top right front pulley (Power steering pump pulley i think) the culperates?
