Scooter
Old/knackered rad cap?
nevins
Check things while under pressure such as rad and connections, expansion tank, water hoses and connections. Best thing to do is get hold of a pressure test kit that simply attaches to the expansion tank, then simply build up the pressure and watch for the pressure to drop, this should also give away where the leak is as it will force the water out. Terminator
It may be better just to change the cap. Operating the system at higher than normal pressure may cause more problems that otherwise would not have occurred. Replace the cap with a standard pressure cap, not higher, as this can also trigger problems.
nigelboyne
silly question but you are using coolant and not plain water
Stephen G
Is yours a TT. Mine was losing a bit coolant and was traced down to a leaking water pipe on one of the turbos.
Guigsy
my old rad would loose water slowly. then the car started overheating on hot days when in trafic or not moving. The top of the rad up under the top of it (aftermarket ally one) was totaly fecked when the garrage looked at it. Put a stock one back in and its be great since. GreaseMonkey
Just a thought, might be worth checking the Water Pump to see if it's leaking from behind the pulley or dried coolant buildup/ stains from/ around its overflow pipe?.
