gaz1
I will be moving into my new house mid january and need a cinema surround sound system before i start decorating so i can hide all the wires. I have a samsung series 9, sky hd, PS3 (although will probably get a blue ray player too) any thoughts on which 1 to get. Also i will be putting the tv on the wall, and will chase in a power lead, 3 hdmi leads, is there anything else i should be chasing in to future proof incase:)

scotty71
I was going to chase is all my leads when I did my install. Like you you never know what you are going to buy in the future so I mounted my TV on a floating wall which was about one and a half inches from the wall surafce and all my wires and cables went behind. I currently run a Windows Media Server, a Laserdisc Player, HD DVD Player , Two Amps, SkyHD and a Standard Pioneer DVD player. All these are housed in a cabinet next to my TV and as you would guess the wires are plentlyful. Anyway here is some pics of what I did rather than Putting wires in the wall. The pics were taken about 1 year ago and it is easy for me to add wires (just have for Sky HD) If putting wires in the wall be careful to leave enough slack as if you ever get a new tv in the future the inputs might be located differently on the back panel I would go for a standalone option every time but as you have a PS3 might not be worth your while. Tv on wall with no floting wall and nothing in cabinet connected Cut the ply to fit the chimney breast Added batton for the ply to sit on Tested on the wall before adding wires Added all wires and speaker brackets Wired up all my cabinet All finished nice and tidy My TV is 40" but I am looking at a 50 in a couple of weeks and going to get my Panny Projector out again and do a BIG screen install but...... thats another story.. Aweegin
.. a nice idea i saw in a new build house i worked in a whiles back, where the tv was gonna be mounted there was a length of down pipe (gutter pipe) mounted into the wall so all the wires were out of sight but, also left plenty of opportunity for future changes. This was set on a chimney breast wall where the amps etc etc were gonna be in the alcove to one side... Another nice idea i saw round my mates gaff.. as per the false wall idea above..leave enough room to run a led rope light around the edge and this creates a form of back light for the screen.. surprisingly this improves the blacks no end!! Of course this means not having a full entire false wall..just a panel that is larger than the tv. Eventually, when i get round to the false wall set up.. i will be doing this too. just a couple of thoughts

(Don't like Samsungs tho lol) I know Plilips used the 'Ambilight' tech and it worked well.. I guess that's where my bud got the idea.. The Raven
I got one of those surround sound bars, with 10 speakers in it. Wall mounted under the tv would look quite good. However if its going into a large room it will become 2.1 at best as it banks on hitting the sound off of walls to create the 5.
