The hype machine of 2009 promised us Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising and Modern Warfare 2 as the two potential GOTY (Game of the year) titles, they turned out to be overhyped and a rather big let down (atleast on the PC).

Both titles (again on the PC) where dumbed down in terms of features due to them both being console ports from the XBOX 360.

2010 is currently touting Bad Company 2 and MOHAA (afghanistan) as the two GOTY titles in the FPS genre. I'll wait till I've played a demo or read positive reviews from gamers before I purchase either - reading gaming magazines and websites for a honest review is pointless since publishers only tend to give pre-release copies/event access to those media outlets that hype them up and a positive light.

Bad Company 2 does have dedicated servers, a +1 starting point for a FPS title on the PC, the destruction looks cool but there is every possibility it will be tweaked down to better optimise it before the game is officially launched.

I think its embarassing that Crysis is still being used as the utlimate gaming benchmark on the PC so long after its release (FutureMark excluded).

in what way? because makers arnt making every game like that orr?

In making the most use of a modern PCs resources. No game since Crysis has really challenged a 'gaming' PC rig, whats the point in upgrading to the latest technology if games will only push hardware that is over 4 years old for example.

The last couple of 'big' releases on the PC platform have come no where near to pushing a PC in terms of performance, theres no point in having an expensive gaming rig if modern titles are optimised for an XBOX 360 and then ported to the PC.

Likewise, not many game developers are making full use of the latest DirectX Libraries, considering PC gamers have had access to 64bit OS's and DX10, how many games have been released that take full advantage of the technology?

Hows everybody getting on with BFBC2?

Ive been playing the single player, only about 5hrs in total, it was a bit short imo, now onto the MP, running well on the PC so far at 2560x1600

Still plenty of bugs though, perhaps they didnt listen to the beta testers that much!

One big problem with it. Can you play it on a LAN with just your mates and a fully populated teams of bots?

Or is it:

1) online only

2) you have to sign up to EA servers, probably twice

3) populated by c*nts on the internet :stickpoke

4) destroyed due to having to dumb it down for consoles

I think I know which it'll be. Bunny hopping, spawn camping, stats padding, vehicle whoring etc etc I had my fill of with BF2. A shame, considering how good BF1942 Desert Combat was.

I have a prediction on the so-called "destroyable scenery" as well. It'll be sparse, and it'll be lit up with a big green border saying "SHOOT HERE" and an arrow, to hammer home to the average console player what to do :)

I think you might be shocked Ian - I'm a dedicated PC gamer but recently got an XBox for Forza - playing Battlefield 1943 and BC:2 has really opened my eyes to the way things have moved on. OK the control mechanism sucks balls big time but the graphics, playability and physics seem to have moved on a lot.

There isn't the choice of weapons / kits of BF2 and as you've predicted EA are a bit controlling but it's not the hell you might expect it to be, give it a whirl with an relatively open mind, you might be shocked.

I need to get this. What attracts me to this over COD MW2 is that its not as noob friendly as the latter game. I still love both games though. Watch this sniper montage!! Sniping actually takes some skill on this game!

I cant wait to play this with turtlebeach headphones *drools*

...but no prone, I'd forgotten about that annoyance.

Um, crap controls and no prone, and overbearing EA? You aren't selling it to me sir :) Shiny new gfx and a physics engine are secondary polish compared to being able to play how you want and control your character. Which is a mistake most games make these days :(

So is there a LAN game? Offline mode? Community-made content like maps, skins, vehicles, even mods? Bots? Co-op? Any of that..? If it ticks some of those boxes I'll be interested but if it's just online deathmatch against american ADHD kids I'll give it a miss.
