nigelboyne
yes i heard before 0w is to thin something to do with the seals in turbo
AndyT
5w and 10w is the recommended grade. I'm open to new insight though.
JamieP
yes i heard before 0w is to thin something to do with the seals in turbo Its recomended for turbocharged cars, i ran it all last winter with no probs, but yeah maybe a 5 or 10 would be better. http://www.mobil.com/Canada-English/Lubes/PDS/IOCAENPVLMOMobil_1_0W-40.asp

Looks good though.

Others might not be lucky.

All the tests I've read have been with new / nearly new engines. Older engines need a a slightly heavier grade.

Guest SupraGTE
its not all about milage! what oil has been in before, how often changed etc etc, running many years on mineral oil and then throwing Mobil 1 or any high syntetic can also very bad, for viskosity there is allot of discussions, 0w those not really mean "thin" oil it is the oils viskosity at a low temperature, if you live in the nordics you dont want high as 15-20 at beginning as you will notice it when it gets very very cold
imi
its not all about milage! no one said that it was ALL about mileage. putting 0W in a 70K engine wouldn't be something that I would recommend, however in a young 10-30K engine on the other hand shouldn't necessarily be a problem (as per Jamie's experience), although for a 15yr old supra engine I would stick with the grade the manufacturer recommends (or close to - modern oils and all that). Your engine = your choice.

imi
if its running fine with 0W; then i'd stick with that or perhaps go with a 5W if you were very concerned.
Guest MoeBlunt
ok, i've got a problem! I hav'nt got a clue what sort of oil is in the car atm... what can i do? bleed it all and put in a new grade?

I hav'nt got a clue what sort of oil is in the car atm... what can i do? bleed it all and put in a new grade? why is that a problem, did you buy it off a cowboy (no history, etc)? if you are really that concerned then bleed it and put in some recommended oil, hardly rocket science. RobSheffield
Drain it out (you dont bleed oil) and refill with decent quality oil
