At what rpm do the two turbos start working?

Recommended Posts

Instead of the more common setup with a V6 where you have one turbo for each bank of cylinders the Supra has a straight 6 cylinder layout with two turbos operating in a sequential setup. The first turbo comes online around 1500rpm and is fully boosting at 2000rpm. At around the 4000rpm point its friend comes online and the two turbos then provide boost together. With the car as supplied by Toyota you’ll notice a slight surge at 4000rpm when the second turbo comes online, but once you decat the effect is far more noticeable. The system is also quite clever in that it pre-spools turbo number 2 so that when it’s time for it to come online it’s already spinning and ready to do the business.
