n boost
I've been on nomorepanic forums for a while and it's great to just read through old threads and see so many people having the same problems, that helped a lot in itself. The missus is also very helpful with it all. My doctor didn't help much at all just put me through loads of tests to make sure it wasn't anything physical - and me being white coat hypertensive just made me feel like crap!! I've read up quite a lot on how it's to do with fight or flight responses and things like getting hot/cold sweats were a way to help you slip out of the grasp of an attacker etc. It all makes you see it differently when it happens, so I have been using breathing techniques and bits to help me too and it all seems to be working. I keep saying to myself "stupid brain, why don't you do as I say!" I very interesting to read and learn about and on the plus side once u know what it is and how to overcome it, future episodes will easily be got rid off. It's only when u go through something like this that u can understand about it........i remember i used to think stress and depression were just 8ollocks and just people seeking attention but iwas so wrong! turbonut
Hey fellah Really sorry to hear about your migraine. I've had then since childhood, runs in the family. Getting your eyesight tested will rule out any physiological causes. Stress can be the sole cause or part of several circumstances coming together. Your GP may or may not be able to help but he/she can provide you with a 'Triptan' - you take it at the first signs of migraine and it should stop or at least minimise the pain/aura/duration. there is a triptan you can now get over-the-counter, called 'Imigran'. Keep one dose with you all the time so you can stop it straight away. You need to work out if any food/drink can be a trigger so you can avoid them. The stress, panic attacks and migraines are probaly all linked. The biggest help I've had is seeing a Homeopath whos working with me to lessen the attacks (up to 3 a week) and the Chronic Daily Headache its left me with. So far its going well and getting better by the month Few people realise how devastating it can be. I just dont bother making plans to go out or go to events anymore as I've wasted tickets so many times Not been able to get to any Supra events for a while now due to this problem Good luck in finding the right treatment and making a 'management plan' Drop me a PM if you need any advice, or just want a sympathetic ear/rant Linda xx
Dash Rendar
welcome to my club, i usually get one once a week Yeah, me too. Every Saturday, almost regular as clockwork since I was about 14! I take beta-blockers everyday (Propranolol) to keep them in check, and it seems to be helping. (The dose is much lower than would normally be taken to manage hypertension.) As previously mentioned, the 5HT agonists (triptans) are the best line of defense when you feel a migraine coming on. But you have to take them as soon as you feel the onset of the migraine. Once the migraine is full-on, no drugs seem to work (at least not for me). Usually I can tell if I'm going to get a migraine that day as soon as I wake up, and definitely by lunch time. (The headache usually starts in the afternoon.) Even before the headache arrives, I just don't feel 'right'. When I've got one coming, it often seems like my pain receptors are in overdrive... So, aches that would normally not bother me or go completely unnoticed (say, after a moderate gym session) seem really painful when I've got a migraine coming on. Anyone else get that?
