narbar
Hi, this is just purely from curiosity, how much does it cost normally from a garage to have a Supra TT engine rebuilt. Has anyone on this owners club paid to have it done? Thanks Dean
Gaz6002
What's wrong with it? Do you mean with standard parts?
mwilkinson
You need to quantify what you mean by this on here. In a minute, if I have not been beaten to it, someone will say 'it depends on how far you want to go'. Are you talking about a stock rebuilt lump or with uprated everything. I would say depending on spec and requirement the cost would be virtually limitless!!

JamieP
Hi, this is just purely from curiosity, how much does it cost normally from a garage to have a Supra TT engine rebuilt. Has anyone on this owners club paid to have it done? Thanks Dean Brand new complete short block is about 2 grand from toyota, unless you are going for over 700 bhp id just go with a new shortblock. narbar
thanks for the replys, i just ment standard parts for the rebuild, i havent got a supra as of yet im just thinking of the options available to me if i brought a high miler. Scott
It's bought. Brought is the past tense of bring. You will be fine with a high miles supra, they are bullet proof. Absolutely no issues with regards to longevity of the block if looked after properly.
jazz1
Well i would look for a low mileage, alot of people get a high mileage then build the engine but forget about the rusty underside
JamieP
A rusty supra is a rare thing, if the car has had regular oil changes then all should be fine, it the worst was to happen second hand engines can be picked up for about a grand. Guest Budz86
Brand new complete short block is about 2 grand from toyota, unless you are going for over 700 bhp id just go with a new shortblock. Maybe slightly of topic here but whats the difference between a shortblock and a long block? Is it to do with the gubbins that come with it ie; pumps, belts etc? Or do I have it completely wrong! lol
Kirk
Yea like wish bones etc like that mines not that high mileage but the under body is pretty crusted up as its spent most of its time in scotland. Stuff like the wishbones are fine just the sub frames and a bit of the sills are a problem. Its not a big thing to worry about and easily cleaned up and treated

Guest Budz86
Thanks mate. What about cams, pistons etc? Do they usually come with or are they bare blocks?
JamieP
Thanks mate. What about cams, pistons etc? Do they usually come with or are they bare blocks? Complete blocks with crank, rods pistons installed, just put your head and ancillaries on and drop it in.
Abz
Mines done 103k and going strong! Look at JamieP's stock block handling 730BHP! If your getting it standard with no major blocks then mileage would not be an issue. Don't be like most of these people who think 100k is like the maximum an engine should run. I remember reading on the forum I think one of the traders has had 2 Supra's in with 250,000 on the clock and they are still going strong! narbar
250k on a high performance petrol is very impressive, i guess it really is true what they say about these engines!

Honestly, thats nothing. If these engines are looked after properly they could easily double that.

Terminator
Chris Wilson services a stock UK that had 300,000 miles on it quite a few years ago. If it is still around it will be closer to 400,000miles by now. Engine was unopened.
dude
Complete blocks with crank, rods pistons installed, just put your head and ancillaries on and drop it in. Thats still a good days work, you need a full gasket set at around £200 and a new oil pump and water pump, and heres the cruncher, you really need to have a look abnd check the bottom end, a whole batch in the US had the wrong size shells in em and the US tuners reccomend checking all short motors before they are fitted, for the same sort of money its poss to build a motor with forged pistons all ARP bolts and fully balanced and thats with all clearances checked on assembly. And from experience you try claiming on a warranty from ANY manufacturer for an engine thet they have not fitted, good luck.
