JamesC
My mam’s Rav-4 has a problem. When you accelerate quite quickly it starts to stutter and the revs start to dip. After a couple of minutes the car is barely driveable and stutters no matter how you drive it. I changed the plugs which were changed at a service a couple of months ago and they seemed to have quite a bit of carbon on, however these made no difference. I think I also heard it backfiring when we were driving it today. One Toyota garage thought it could be the ECU at a cost of £750, but would want £120 just to check if it is this or not. The car is a standard 2.0 auto. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be? Is it likely to be the ECU?
merckx
Have you tried resetting the ECU, not familiar with the vehicle but worth a try.
JamesC
How do you reset the ECU mate? Is it just a question of taking the battery off for a short while? Cheers
