Ultra Quiet Exhaust.

Recommended Posts

I think it’s time to look at getting a quieter exhaust. I do like the noise, but I fancy something a bit more refined now.

Ideally, I would like something similar in shape (but blingy) to the Nur-spec R I have, but with significantly reduced Db levels.

Is it possible to achieve this without seriously affecting power output? I don’t mind a little bit of loss mind.

Any ideas / experiance would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks,

Matt

Thanks for all brilliant repsonses so far. There's a lot of food for thought in here now

Blitz NUR RX looks identical to the Blitz NUR R, but is quite a bit quieter at 91Db

Blitz also make the NUR Touring rated at 88Db (stock Supra exhaust is 87Db), this is the quietest aftermarket exhaust for the Supra that I know of.

Thanks Nic, an invaulable source of knowledge as ever. I'd ask for some prices but you're not trading at the moment are you? Will you be back in the game soon?

Cheers bud.

Had mine noise tested at Cadwell park. Its got a nise sound to it but it was measured at only 89Db.

Thats a whifbitz DP and midpipe and a tanabe :D

Thanks Mike. Excuse my ignorance, but is that Db level tested at idle? My mates got that Db level reader on his iphone, so we're going to have a crude check tonight :D

The Blitz nur RX will be too restrictive for your power levels Matt. Mine stopped working at around 450bhp and began causing boost issues.

I'm now using the Whifbitz twin-box system on my single and it's perfect for me.

Have you got the screamer already routed back into the downpipe? Because that will also make a big difference to how loud the car is.

It does beg the question though: Why do you need a quiet exhaust? You car isn't exactly the most understated one about!

Not ignorant at all Matt, all noise tests (to my knowledge) are done in one of two ways, a static test at 3/4 the cars rev limit either 0.5 or 1 meter away at a 45 degree angle or as a drive by reading.

Mine was taken at 1 meter, 4000 rpm :)

Ah right, in that case the nur would be a no go.

I know it's not understated in the looks department, but the noise is a bit loud. I'd prefer people to look at the car because they like it rather than be forced to listen to its racket.

I think the car would be much more refined if it wasn't setting off car alarms in tesco! :D

Believe it or not, I don't want to 'force' my car into other peoples personal space. Visually, people can choose to look or not, but when it comes to sound, it's quite imposing and I don't really like to feel that I may be annoying passers by etc.

1. You take your car to Tescos  Think of all those car to put a dink in your door.

2. The Nur spec is still quite loud, its a really nice sound and I do miss mine but its does have a slight drone on the motorway.

I've had a complete engine build, single and tune by Ryan G!

Ryans been busy with your car :D

I've had a complete engine build, single and tune by Ryan G!

It pulls like a shire horse for a modest size, fast spooling turbo.

oh i knew that i just didnt think it was safe without the rear over taking you :D

im sorry im just in 1 of those moods again :innocent:

I drive the car as much as I can, and a trip to the DVD machine in tesco is a good excuse to stretch her legs. I usually leave the car in the short stay mind :sly:

Michel's been busy on the car, there's been a lot of niggles to iron out after all the morons I've paid to work on it. Michel's been a saviour to me. Don't know where I'd be supra wise if it wasn't for him and Ian putting in all the hard work they have.

It's alright, i'll just stick it down to Envy :D

Believe it or not, in the dry, I can drag the car from a stand still on WOT without wheel spin.

Obviously, in the wet it's a different matter.

How does the the RX compare to the Whifbitz system in terms of noise?
