Terminator
Are you doing this for performance or looks?
Nugget
To be honest, a bit of both! I need new brake pads, so was kind of thinking I might upgrade the brakes at the same time! The car is an import with standard brakes, so any ideas?
Alex
Don't get the drilled rotors...get grooved rotors. the drilled ones are prone to cracking. You'll need a wheel with a big offset (+50 or there abouts) Not sure who stocks them, sorry.
Steve W
Sorry to butt in... Will the std' 17's take most after-market brake uprgrades ? If I ever want to 'UP' from the small-Jap set-up I may want to go straight to something 'lairy' - if I'm gonna spend loads for UK brakes might as well go further ! ? (probably not a lot dearer) FatS. Alex
there is a very small gap between the uk spec calipers and the 17" wheels... the diameter is also a problem on 355mm brembo's!!!
Steve W
SO, only 'normal' aftermarkets.....nothing TOO silly-size ? (I probably wouldn't want {couldn't afford!} extra large ones anyhow)
Terminator
Unless you are going to fit larger rotors than the UKspecs, there is not much in it in performance terms. Martin did or found some calculations that showed UK and six pot fronts to be equal in stopping power. UK's are cheaper than six pots especially if you can get in on a group buy. If you go bigger brakes you will need big wheels as very few imports on stock Jap brakes will have aftermarket wheels big enough to fit over bigger up rated rotors and callipers. As for other wheels and brake set ups you need to ask around the BBS to see which wheel fits over which calliper. You can get a significant increase in braking performance just but upgrading the Jap fronts to UK.
