HELP! vvti idles at 2000 RPM with check eng.lght and abs light

I was having amp and subs installed on my 99 VVTI and my mate who was installing it has stuffed something up. He was chasing a 12v+ for the remote turn on for the amp and he was checking output voltages on this plug for a remote on source for the amp:

attachment.php?attachmentid=102484&stc=1&d=1260612282

only problem was he had the multimeter set wrong and I/he thinks he shorted the connections to ground. Now the car starts fine but it idles at 2000rpm

attachment.php?attachmentid=102482&stc=1&d=1260612282

and pressing the throttle does nothing until it hits the floor, and then only just revs a little. The check engine light and ABS light are stuck on also as you can see.

there is also this *unknown*wire:

attachment.php?attachmentid=102483&stc=1&d=1260612282

which he is saying is the problem but I highly doubt it. I have an apexi turbo timer and boost gauge and the turbo time is flashing when on a/f ratio with no reading- its never done this before:

Please help...

I have no idea where to start and there is no one within 2000kms that would even know where to start....

So if anyone can point me in the direction I can start looking for the problem please do.. I have disconnected the battery for a few minutes in an attempt to reset ECU but it hasnt made any difference. From my limited knowledge the car is in "limp home mode" but why/how to fix it I have no idea.

Any help is more than appreciated- hell if someone can help me solve this I will shout them a night at the pub via paypal... I am seriously worried and dont know where to turn..!!!

****UPDATE****. after leaving the battery disconnected overnight the car now idles. It took a while for the ECU to 'relearn' itself and was idling high for a while but it seems ok now- the throttle is working and the check engine light is not staying on but the ABS light is staying on. Anyone have any idea what I can check now in regards to the ABS?

I have put it in diagnostic mode and the check engine light flashes 8 times, short pause and flashes 9 times then repeats this. I have a 94 US toyota workshop manual for the engine but it doesnt list any code 8, code 9,or code 89 - anyone have any ideas?

I have checked all fuses and they all seem fine

If you know which wires he changed/shorted/connected/installed/cut/spliced into then i would remove it all and put everything back to standard.

Then look for a +12V supply from a simpler source. I dont understand why your mate shorted the plug to ground.

All you need is a 12V. I would just splice into a single wire.

he hasn't spliced anything yet

he was searching for one when this happened

I have given an exact rundown of what happened- I was standing there watching and when the car wouldnt run proper after this I stopped him and had the car trailered home.

I am thinking the A/F sensor / meter is stuffed- anyone know how to check it?

2nd that, if he shorted to ground in theory the 1st thing to go is the fuse. Get a code read done on the car and see what comes up. As for the remote wire, get him to do the job properly and not be an "arther". Use the remore pick up of the head unit, or last resorts pick it up of the remote for the electric Ariel.

If you want to read the codes yourself, locate the diagnostic plug under the bonnet and bridge out terminals TE and TE1 and the code will flash through the management light. Quick flashes indicate unit numbers and long indicate tens.

So if you have 2 long flashes and 3 quick that would be code 23, hope this helps.

The only other thing is the apexi turbo timer is now reading A/F and but the turbo timer function isn't working....

ok, I think everything is fixed (except the turbo timer). Turns out whoever wired the apexi turbo timer and boost gauge in didnt do a very good job. its a major mess of wires and electrical tape- so i am going to pull it all out and either re-install it using heatshrink and proper joiners/solder or replace it.

Turns out the had re-routed the ABS fuse's power through the TT circuit- absolute stupidity in my book. anyway it had blown a fuse that was hanging in the TT wiring loom which I have now replaced.

Thanks to everyone for their help...!

Dont suppose anyone has a wiring diagram for this model turbo timer?
