(Correct position shown in the video). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKIOFbmze6A Could someone sort out what this is? greets
Jurgen-Jm-Imports
it does not sound major, maybe crank pulley on way out..
Guest Carsten
Thx Jurgen. Any more opinions?
Terminator
Look down the rear of the rad and see if the bottom pulley is wobbling. Certainly does not sound like anything inside the engine. Most likely belt/pulley related. Is the car running nonstandard ancillerey pulleys?
Guest SupraGTE
im listened to the Vid now many times Regarding to the very low idle i would asume by the rytm that the ticking noise is coming from a valve , but i can be wrong, does it become worse or better when engine gets warm how does it sound if you raise the rpms a bit eaxmple to 1000 and 2000? The low idle is caused by a not cleaned ICV. I´ve to do that next week. Worse or better is a good question ^^ Well if the car is warm and i drive hard it gets a bit worse. And yes: Higher rpms = faster/bit louder noise. Wen to a garage yesterday, the suggested that it could be a hydraulic valve lifter. But it is nothing serious. @Terminator Car is bone Stock regarding to engine driveshaft etc.
Tricky-Ricky
Wen to a garage yesterday, the suggested that it could be a hydraulic valve lifter. But it is nothing serious. I,m afraid your garage doesn't know the Supra engine, as it runs solid lifters not hydraulic, i guess it could be a worn cam lobe or shim, but it could also be a stuck or bent valve. Have you checked your compression? does it misfire at all?
Guest Carsten
There may be little missfire right before the gearchange when i floor it. Haven´t done a compression test yet. As long as it isnt something serious its okay. ps: I´ll do another Video while driving. Guest SupraGTE
as Tricky said , go to the garage and have them to check the compression, a bent valve or worn cam lobe(s) can go hand in hand with low idle also , where in Germany are you located? in Köln i know a guy that is very good in supras

Terminator
What idle speed do you get at tick over?
Guest Carsten
Let me test this tomorrow. Got my car back for oil change etc. Everything fine till now.
Guest Carsten
Have to bring this up again. Ive done a compression Test. All cylinders were fine except Nr2. Showed a compression of only 7 Bar +-100psi. What should i do next?

Guest Carsten
Little add: Got huge loads of white smoke on cold startup. If the engine/exhaust is warm the smoke disappears.
Jurgen-Jm-Imports
Little add: Got huge loads of white smoke on cold startup. If the engine/exhaust is warm the smoke disappears. this sounds normal
Ian C
this sounds normal Not if it's loads and loads. Compression may be down due to a HG leak into the water system, and that causes the white smoke.
Guest Carsten
Yes, the exhaust smells like antifreeze
pistonbroke
I think you've answered your own question then mate. Blown HG
