Gaz6002
Excellent video of a fairly large RTC Mh835unue5w Like they say, the phrase 'awesome' is certainly used all too often these days, but IMHO this clip is worthy of the moniker. j1mb0b1
nice, but that was not mach1. Thats why title says "close to speed of sound"
johnny g
nice, but that was not mach1. Thats why title says "close to speed of sound" Given the speed of sound is around 747mph at upto 5,000ft, the mean height across New Mexico is 5,700ft above speed level. The sledge was approximately 650mph. Given Mach=V/A; 650/747 = Mach 0.87. Close enough for me.
spooling
speed of sound is in relation with temperature. not altitude. LSS (kt) = 38,94x(square root of T(°K) [273°K = 0°C] LSS = 661 kt (at sea level at ISA temp.= 288 k) (ISA@SL=15*) i doubt it was anywhere close to 15* new mexico is a hot arn place, so i would expect it to be about 30* if not even more 38.94 x V273+30= 677KTS 677KTS x 1.1508=780MPH = M1 Mach# = TAS/LSS since we are dealing with GS it will vary by a factor i don't have but WTH 650/780=0.83 AND I AM NOT BEEN A DICK ABOUT IT, I AM JUST SO BORED LOL (btw, i am not a nerd, i just work with those formulas everyday)
