Jamesy
so how do you prevent the inevitable? sell the car!
stevie_b
No anti-theft measure is guaranteed to work. Whether people want to steal your car's registration, your identity, your car, your bike or your TV, if they want it badly enough, they'll have it. The vast majority of these crimes are opportunistic whereby the thief is looking for easy pickings. If you put measures in place that make it even slightly difficult for them, they'll most likely move on to someone else who has security that is slacker than Katie Price's front bottom. If I was selling a car, I'd be tempted to leave the registration plates visible on the photos because 1) as jimbob pointed out, scammers can easily find out that info by posing as a potential buyer, and 2) I hopefully wouldn't own the car in a couple of months or so. If they aren't sale photos, then registration plates are a need-to-know item, and you don't need to know.
