how_supra
I think its a great news But I have my reservations. At the moment it is acceptable to be doing 80mph on the motorway - the police aren't likely to pull you over. (Technically speaking). But do you think they will be as lenient if you are doing 90mph? I think people may use it as a ticket to speed Or Those who already don't go the correct speed on the motorways and sit in the wrong lanes etc are just going to cause more havoc. Who knows I have my pessimistic head on this evening Other than that I think its a good thing
BigRoy
Couldnt even hit 8mph today on the M25:(
Class One
Never gonna happen.
how_supra
Never gonna happen. Its a shame, but I just can't see it being enforced. I remember when I attended a speed workshop, there were X number of folks who were well over 60. These poeple still thought that the now national speed limit was actually delimited as it was back in the day. OMG!
Guest Rafsen
"A lot of people are already exceeding 70 mph on a regular basis and not being fined or punished for that. If it's raised to 80 mph then people will go to 90 mph." I hate it when this is used in such arguments. Most people who drive at 80mhp now will not suddenly start driving at 90 IMO if limits were raised! Its just that 70mph for most of the time (up north anyway) is too slow. They assume that people deliberatley drive above the speed limits regardless! grrrrr...
CardiffSupra
I think 80 is a good, but there will be more accidents only because of them people driving at 30mph!!!! nealy went into the back of someone last night, they must have been doing 30-40mph on the m4, they should be booked for doing 30 not me for doing 80! Ian R
I have my own speed limit on the motorway its 99mph unless my road angel tells me not to
kghelmet
speeds not the main killer on motorways,it`s the basics. the lack of use of mirrors and indicators or some knob under taking.
Supragal
I agree with both points. Speed limits on mways are way too low, however I do think that people will always push it "just that little bit over" so you will get a knock on effect.
Shovels
70 is definately too slow, but having said that 70 for some people is more than enough. I think it comes down to the car and the drivers ability. You can be the best driver in the world, but if ur car aint up to it, then it's bl00dy dangerous. Or you have some nobber in a fast car, same result. If you go to the autobahns in Germany you don't get everyone driving like complete nutters just cause there's no speed limit. People should be allowed to drive to their ability, if the old bill catch you driving beyond those abailities, or like a nobber, then you should be done. Matt T
speeds not the main killer on motorways,it`s the basics. the lack of use of mirrors and indicators or some knob under taking. Yes, its about time people realise speed is not the main reason for accidents on our roads, its lack of judgement and skill of some drivers who are incapable of driving safely at any speed. I dont see huge worries of road accidents in Germany yet their motorways are derestricted completely! Plus trucks trying to overtake each other at 0.001mph faster than each other dont help matters!! Also, lane disciplin is a big problem! It really annoys me when people stay in middle and outside lanes when the inside lane is clear [/end rant]
kghelmet
also the i`m on the motorway and i`m going to stay in the middle lane all day brigade
toyotasuprauk
I think 70 is too slow but not for some drivers/roads/conditions etc which is why it will be variable. I'd be surprised if this one got passed but it would be good! By the way I believe Germany has the highest motorway death toll in the whole of Europe by a huge percentage unfortunately. Gordon F
Plus trucks trying to overtake each other at 0.001mph faster than each other dont help matters!![/end rant] The trouble with trucks is that they are all now limited to 90 kmh, but due to calibration difficulties, some can be 0.001 faster than others
BrianBunning
also the i`m on the motorway and i`m going to stay in the middle lane all day brigade Yeah that really annoys me too!! If i see people doing this and im on the inside lane i make a point of indicating all the way out to the fast lane then pulling straight back into the inside lane as soon as ive passed them, youd be surprised some people take the hint!!
