Whilst I like ROTM and have purchased a few copies of the single, for anything to take on the Cowell crap machine, the alternative Christmas No 1 needs to have wider appeal. There may be many who dislike like the Cowell's strangle hold on the music buisness, but would stop short of buying a track with the work Fuck in the lyrics. They would just not buy anything.

If Cowell is to be beaten, the song needs to be by some one /some band with amazing natural talent, who has made it, the old fashion way, by starting from nowhere and gradually building up a fan base, which grew and grew because they have the gift of a musical talent that makes them stand out from the crowd. For example I think Sarah McLachlan's "Winter Song", would offend no one and could beat down anything Cowell could dream up, because it is worth listening as the artist has real talent and the song even has the word "Christmas" in the lyrics. Mrs and Mrs 2.4 Kids could safely by it for granny.

God help us all if Cowell manages to pull of his TV referendum idea. Where are the thought police when you need them.

Wouldnt suprise me, 10 million people voted on the show, and 2/3 were for his song, so he only needs 10% of that lot to go out and buy it and he's a shoe in. Its made it a more interesting chart run-down though :)

I suspect it wasn't 10 million people - I think it was 10 million phone calls, perhaps made by 2 million phoning in 5 times.

I wonder if next year it will be 'Slayer - Angel of Death' :D

Heres hoping!! Perhaps we should start a group on Facebook or something where everyone agrees to buy one specific 'alternative' number 1 than the one Cowell puts out. That might put out the message that the public cant be brainwashed any more. Thoughts???

YESS!!! This has somewhat restored my faith in humanity. GO RAGE!!!

surely this competition between the two acts has also resulted in more sales for joe compared to the sales he would have had had there not been any competition?

Nah not really:

HMV's Gennaro Castaldo:

"It's not so much that Joe lost the race - sales of his single have matched those of recent X Factor winners, and he shouldn't take this personally; this is all about the stunning impact of the Rage Against the Machine Internet campaign in galvanising music fans to protest against the dominance of the reality show in recent years."
