LCD TV for my Mum

CJ

Recommended Posts

I a thinking of buying my mother an LCD TV for Christmas. TBH, her viewing doesn't really warrant a high end TV (think Jeremy Kyle etc) and as she never uses DVD / Blu Ray the only input to the TV will be via a Sky Box that has no extra channel subscription. But, after saying that, she still likes to watch things up until her bedtime at 21.00 :D

I have been looking around and came across this. What do you guys think? Are there better alternatives out there?

I'd be worried about this:

Number Of Scart Sockets: 0

HDMI: 1

I've never heard of a T.V that doesn't have scart input... Doesn't a sky box go in via scart? You can pretty much only attach one HDMI device.

Ah good point. My mum has an older Sky box and I am pretty sure that this doesnt have an HDMI output

I think this is the one I'm going to buy my GF for her room. It's got freeview built in by the sounds of it?

The spec is amazing for the price. £299

HDMI: 3

Headphone: Yes

PC input: Yes

RGB (via Scart): 1

SCART: 2

S-video: Yes

18000:1 contrast ration

Is it difficult to set up then? Maybe not such a good idea for my dear old mum if it is.

Simple to set up I recall so in your Mum's case-plug in scart lead(mine's HDMI) from Sky box, power up both devices and select desired AV input from the remote and Robert's your mother's brother :)

Just optimising it would be more complicated probably for your Ma as you need to be a user-remote guru but I'd imagine this would be the case for all new TVs nowadays.

I'll probably be in the same boat myself in 40 years fiddling with holographic/virtual/cybernetic etc tvs :D
