Guest Duggie
Hi Has anyone else had problems with their seat belts not retracting or being lazy? Mine are not retracting fully and are slack when worn, the car is a 95 SZ with 66k miles. I have had the reels out and lubed them but there seems to be some resistance from the clamps which don't seem to be releasing. Any hints would be most welcome! Ta, Duggie

Fitz
Mine tends to give up about half way. Doesn't really bother me though as long as they work effectively by keeping my head out of the windscreen then I'm happy
Abz
Are you sure your has done 66k? Mines done 105k & seat belts are pretty good for the mileage. Though I think yours might have gotten damp at one point or general wear. My civic belts once was damp because during the respray it was left out with no windows & got wet. I just replaced them. thenee
Mr Sheen Multi-surface polish! the old fella in next door to us in work is a machanic and he swears buy it. all you do is pull the seat belt all the way out, as it go's back (slowly) in give it a light dust of polish. do this a couple of times and then work it in and out a few times and it should work. he says it's down to dust, grease, and crud messin wiv the belt mech and the polish dosen't harm the belt itself....... give it a go what have you got to loose? pistonbroke
I got a replacement belt from one of the breakers on here. Easy to fit, took about 30 mins to swap out.

Kirk
I got a replacement belt from one of the breakers on here. Easy to fit, took about 30 mins to swap out. half hour to swap a seat belt... 10 mins max easy enough to just pull the entire thing out, blow out all the crap and clean it all up... wind it fully in and out a few times, job done
Guest Duggie
Many thanks everyone for your input, replacement not a problem, I am an engineer but a tight fisted one! There seems to be some kind of clamp that is not releasing fully but maybe that is a red herring. Will try the mr sheen/ silicone options then dig out the wallet!
