Guest blueangel
I sold a bike on ebay about 3 days ago now for £41, on the ad i stated the bike needed some attention and had a buckle in the rear wheel which might be able to be fixed by a bike shop. Now also on the ad i put it as a pick up only. I had a young lad buy the bike who then when finding that i live on the outskirts of the city not on his doorstep asks if i can give him a refund to which i say no. I agree to meet him in city centre and drop the bike off one morning. I meet the lad and hand over the bike and he rides away on it and i go home. next day im out somewhere and whilst im out he calls and says he will call back later but never does. Tonight i get a call and he's asking for money back because the wheel he says is unrepairable(he rode off on it lol) and also there where no valve caps or lights on the bike:blink:

This can be fixed with a new wheel which correctly states in the advert "The rear wheels has a little buckle but nothing a shop couldnt fix grab a bargain". Lucky you didn't say REPAIR! marbleapple
FFS. Is it really this bad? I have one guy complaining about a backing card missing (despite the photos showing it not there), I have one guy claiming a wing mirror is missing despite the fact that on the photos it is (they don't just vanish) and I have one buy claiming that the item must be lost in the post as it hasn't arrived with him in 5 days.... he lives in America. Oh and one guy is complaining because I am out to make a profit on eBay!!

a98pmalcolm
hi mate, im a manager in a bike shop. The chances are that the back wheel buckled becasue some of the spokes lost tension, he's then rode off, bumped up and down cerbs and now bent the wheel and made the cycle unrideable! I see this alot at work! The guy is clearly a douche and due to not repairing the back weel he has damaged it and u cant accept a refund as the bike is coming back in a worse state! Sadly new new wheels arnt pennies! Itsa 24 speed so its an 8 speed cog at the back, and being a Schwinn the will use a casset sytem not a block type system! Casset wheels, 8 speed, in black there about £40 Dont refund, a hes made the bike worse! And as far as your conserned he rode off with it fine, and now its not! Thats sumin thats not your fault mate! Hope iv helped, if u need any cycle advise just PM mate! Paul
benkei
Now also on the ad i put it as a pick up only. Yes you did. I had a young lad buy the bike who then when finding that i live on the outskirts of the city not on his doorstep asks if i can give him a refund to which i say no. I agree to meet him in city centre and drop the bike off one morning. I meet the lad and hand over the bike and he rides away on it and i go home. Should have asked him for £5 for petrol money. Clearly he didn't read the advert. Tonight i get a call and he's asking for money back because the wheel he says is unrepairable(he rode off on it lol) and also there where no valve caps or lights on the bike:blink: Sold as seen. Also you put up a picture of the bike, so he could see what condition it was in. In the dispute just say sold as seen and mention the contents of the advert to which the buyer does not appear ot have looked at. Should be a simple case. Some people need culling. hogmaw
Remove all your money from your paypal account. Remove the details of your credit card too. If he tries to get Paypal to refund him, there won't be any money there to refund.

And then tell Ebay you took the bike back and gave him his money back
Richie1985
If you have to take it back then make sure he delivers it to you, don't go out of your way to meet him. Just like buying something online, delivery cost is never refunded. Can't see how you would be forced to refund him, the item was sold as described. stevie_b
The buyer sounds like he's unable to take responsibility for his own actions. If he didn't even check the wheel when he picked it up, he's only got himself to thank (not that you should have been obliged to cancel the sale anyway: people bid to buy, not to look!). Not getting a refund would be a good lesson for him.
ShamelessTT
Ebay will probably side with the buyer, but i agree you advert is simple but covers the area hes moaning about. Just have to hope you get something with half a loaf that looks at your dispute....
The-Plethora
Forums are the way forward for selling stuff now, whilst I think ebay isn't too bad for buying I dont think I would ever consider selling on there again these days especially with the stupidly expensive fees and pretty much mandatory crappy paypal. I have always wondered why we havent seen a "google auctions" yet, they would seriously have the power to whip ebay into shape overnight. clarky666
Sadly Ebay now has itself racked to the hilt to protect and help the buyers and does little in comparison for the seller. As soon as they took away the ability for sellers to leave negative feedback then this sort of stuff has snowballed. I can relate to a lot of what marbleapple said too; buyers have you by the balls and are holding all the aces. I was selling a second hand pair of football boots a few months ago. Took four good quality pictures and the boots were minted for being 7+ years old. The buyer emailed me to acknowledge receiving them and saying how happy he was only for me to log in and seemy 100% positive feedback has been smoked with "No original box included"........FFS I know the general saying in life is that there are idiots everywhere and it's only a small minority but in Ebay's cases you start to think it's the majority especially reading similar stories to this. I get tons of stuff off ebay, and I sell a lot too. I'm in my 10th year on there now. It has to be remembered that the VAST MAJORITY of sales take place with no problem at all.
