Personal MP3 player

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of getting my lady a personal MP3 player for her birthday (those of you who know her, no letting the cat out of the bag!! :D )

She's a nut for Sony stuff, but I know that a lot of their MP3 Walkmans force you to use their universally hated Sonicstage software to get the files onto and off of it. She will have to use her work PC (or mine) to transfer files so I'd rather get her something that you can just rip and drag and drop onto using Windows Explorer.

Any suggestions? It doesn't have to have oodles of capacity - 256Mb ought to be sufficient (so I'm thinking solid-state rather than hard disk) but I'd rather get her 512 if poss.

Any suggestions? This would be ideal if it wasn't for the poxy Sonic poxy Stage poxy software poxy thing. I'm also considering the iPod shuffle, but the lack of display puts me off a bit.

What you want is a Sony NWE407 or a NWE507 :) Aviable in some nice colors with a killer OLED screen. And some drag&drop software will be out soon.
Loosk very nice, but I can't buy something based on what software may or may not be out to support it soon, plus if its not D&D yet I may was well buy one of the other NWE models and save a few quid (and get her something else with it, or course  ).

Oh didnt know it isnt aviable in the uk over here you can get it with 24hour shipping from amazon.

And the new sony software isnt too bad actually.

And the best thing on the new models is the new charging technology. 3 minutes of charging lasts you 3 hours of listening.

If you want to spend 250 quid, get a Sony PSP (the new hand-held Playstation) imported from Japan. They are as near as damn it PS2 quality and will play MP3 audio & MP4 video as well. They run Memory stick Duo cards, currently up to 1Gb. They won't be released over here till September (I think) when they'll be about £180.
