clarky666
This might sound a bit obvious but conflicting advice from various sources. Basically the car i had from before buying the Supra has had it's insurance expire. Which is fine as i won't be driving it and planning to sell. It's currently parked on the designated bays space outside my flat. Now i re-taxed it last month and it's also got MOT till well into next year however i want to double check this is OK ? I know there is a grey area in regards to "public highway" in terms of the car being on the road or not; i would obviously say it's not but not sure if there are any technicalities with it being in a private parking bay if that is still classed as on the road ? supra_aero
what do you mean by "private parking bay". If you mean residents parking thats a public road.
Rob
Speaking off the top of my head, as usual, I would presume its like the private land of supermarket car parks, ie its still publicly accessable and therefore the "rules of the road" apply. I would suggest you still need 3rd party insurance in the unlikely event it combusts, or rolls away due to a failed handbrake etc. All highly improbable I know, but the risk is there and you have a duty of care to uphold. Also you'll need insurance for any test drivers won't you?
Class One
If it's land that forms part of the highway or it is land that is accessible by implied invitation ie a car park of a block of flats that is for use by residents then it will be classified as a "public highway" and must have at least third party only indemnity. It must also be SORNED. If the car is garaged or parked on private land then you don't need insurance but it must still be SORNED. It is likely that the current twats Government will seek to legislate next year that ALL vehicles need to have constant insurance or be declared off road similar to the SORN system. Current penalty for no insurance is £200 fine & 6 points on a FPN.
