Anyone know??
Chris Wilson
Nearly all companies will, but the small print will specifically exclude future medical conditions and issues even tentatively related to the accident. Pet Plan are considered one of the more reputable companies, despite Indian call centres. They paid out a fearsome amount for one of our dogs a couple of years back without any hassle. Without the cover I'd have had to have him euthanased. He's fine now, but if I re insured him they'd not cover a recurrence of his particular previous condition. Attention to the small print is key!! You need to ask your vet for specific advice as they'll want a written prognosis of the felines issues before giving cover. He may be willing to couch it "imaginatively", as, at the end of the day, he makes money whoever pays him.
stevie_b
This might be useful although the article only covers the basics: http://www.lovemoney.com/news/insurance/protecting-your-pet-what-you-need-to-know-1067.aspx

Anyone know?? Before i got Wils (Northern Inuit) insured i came home to find she'd pissed blood all over the kitchen floor. After a trip to the vets, some antibiotics and the all clear i got got her insured with Petplan. When they asked if she'd had any illnesses or treatment i told them about the vet trip and what the vet thought it was. They just told me that i wouldn't be able to claim for a similar issue for 6 months, just to make sure it wasn't a recurring / serious problem and i was trying it on. TrickTT
Another one for Petplan, paid out over 4K for my GSD a couple of years ago, no problems. I've had him insured with them since he was a puppy. Just read the small print before you sign.
Mike
We do quite a bit of Pet Insurance for a few companies - I think the best cover/value is Halifax Building Society... check them out

edd_t
I've always found Tesco to be the cheapest for our cats. and they have been pretty good with payouts too, last year I had a claim for £2500! Have also used Petplan, they are good but expensive. unlike other insurance companies pet plan pay for it all upfront, no need to claim it from them, which does make life easier. Steviekid
Whatever company you go with make sure they won't just pay out for a year. Some disease eg. diabetes, cushings etc require lifelong treatment but some companies only pay for a year and after this you won't be covered. Other insurers won't pay out either as it's a pre-existing condition.
MARTIN R
We are with Tesco and have just made a claim for £2k so will wait and see how smooth payment is. Sadly the outcome for my best pal our Golden retriever is not good and we now into the third month of a maximum of 6 months left. Despite surgery and I mean serious surgery the tumour was far more advanced than originally thought:(
Frank Bullitt
Another one for pet plan, they have shelled nearly 10K this year for my dogs knee replacement. The policy you want is the Supreme Policy which used to have unlimited vets bills, but due to the current climate this has been capped at 12K per injury/illness. Just a shame they don't do reptile insurance
tbourner
We've just changed our policy to helpucover. They have a set maximum that resets each year for life - a lot of 'for life' policies have a max figure per illness.
