Gazboy
I do air field days at Brunters, done 2 in my MR2, done 1 in the Supra, and got another coming up. The Supra is very hard on discs and pads, and deffo front boots. When Bedford is more sensibly priced I'll take it there too. I like the comfort of a lot of run off (better to have it and not need it, than not have it and need it).
Gaz Walker
When you factor in all the costs it does add up to an expensive bill, especially if you do it every month. A regular trackday fan would need a front respray every year at least, plus tyres, pads, fuel, entry etc etc. I am planning to do croft at least a few times this year, should be a laugh in the Lexus I'd do Elvington but the tyre wear is horrific... I am going to have a set of Toyota R888's on my stock wheels, with my blingy wheels kept special... Gaz.
Chiefgroover
especially if you do it every month. A regular trackday fan would need a front respray every year at least, Are you racing on dirt tracks? no loose stones on my local one, only stone chips i get are on the road, which means a nose cone respray every year. I am gonna try that stick on stuff to prevent it. Running a Supra is an expensive business, well it is for me!
Chase
What's the best way of doing a track day then? Do you have to go through a third party, or does the track do them themselves? Cheers

michael
the tyre bill of around £900 is too much. Buying 17's off people who have gone all blingy seems to be the way forward, most come with enough tyre tread for a couple of circuit days or a crazy abrasive airfield session. £100 > £300 and you get to keep the wheels. Bobbeh
If you use stock 17's I'd imagine the bill shouldnt be more than 500£ for tyres. Again depends on how rough you are with the car.. if you like chucking it sideways and thinking you're going fast it'll probably cost you a lot more than keeping it smooth. Ive got my stock 17's with a decent amount of rubber on them but the car would look awfull now its wbk'd. Not rough with my car at all, mr smooth here (still killed a pair of fronts) sideways usually means slow when on a circuit, good fun tho. Chris Wilson
What's the best way of doing a track day then? Do you have to go through a third party, or does the track do them themselves? Cheers Both options are available and commonly used. http://www.bookatrack.co.uk for example. Or Donington have their own sessions, see http://www.donington-park.co.uk/trakzone/

Please take plenty of pics and sneak some video for us Light rain both days If it's anything heavier than a few spots, I'll not be going on in the supra, but will be blasting round in the golf. Thorin
Yup Supra's are fantastic track day weapons. Don't listen to anyone who'll tell you big horsepower RWD cars don't handle well, just ask the Caterham owners at the track day I went to at Cadwell Park! I suprised myself how well a supra did against them. My girlfriend was stood next to one of the guys from the race team running one of the caterhams there and he was timing various cars as they went around. One lap when I went past he said "This one's pretty quick". I was impressed at that Unfortunately though yes trackdays can be expensive, I managed to destroy my brakes pretty much completely (well what did I expect out-braking caterhams ). New discs and pads all round plus a caliper seized beyond repair cost me ~£900. Fantastic fun though, I just need to pay off the credit card now and I can do it again! Anyone thinking of going to Cadwell go for it, it's a great little track. More of a bike track really as it's so narrow, plus there's not a lot of run-off area's anywhere! Full throttle in second gear going over the crest of the "Mountain" is a bit hairy!! I'd post photo's of the day but I'm STILL on 28.8k dial-up! Ian R
Brunters was my first track day in the Supe and I loved it yep I did need new rear pads but needed them before. Tyres went stick but no wear at all really. Just secured a set of 17's to rip to pieces next time.

Muffleman
I would imagine a lot of the modified Supras here couldn't get on track anyway. A number of tracks have a 100dB noise limit, and you're not gonna get any of the big exhausts through this. I had this problem with my MR2, and no doubt I would with the Supra should I think about tracking it. My nearest tracks are Goodwood (VERY stingy on noise limits) and Brands (bit better, but still too tight for the Nur spec).
michael
I got funny looks from the noise man at Donington when I left the pits, he pulled me before I went out and said that he knew I'd be too loud just by listening to the idle - once out there I had no issues but I did short shift past the microphone and stay as far away from it as I could
Bobbeh
See, this is whats wrong with this shitty country, they force you off the road on to tracks to have your fun 'legally', and then force you off the tracks because something as pathetic as noise.. arg you cant do anything these days
pab_s
mcanny how do you find the auto box on the track?
