Chris Wilson
Why do I see so few MKIV Supras on track days? Donington 2 weeks ago, not one, Oulton this last Saturday, not one... Come on guys, get the cars on the track, they are fantastic track day machines. You won't find Gatsos or the plod, the worst you will find is a noise meter, which in all seriousness some exhausts will upset. There was a superb Nissan Silvia at Oulton, and an MR2 turbo, both going really well. But no Supras at all. Anyone got a day booked soon? Pics of my outing at Oulton on Saturday, after being sent home from Donington last time out for excess noise, are uploading now at This Location They are pretty big file sizes. Engine now run in! tbourner
I'd rather get an E-Manage, FMIC, UK brakes and good tyres before track daying. Can't afford all that though.
Chris Wilson
I'd rather get an E-Manage, FMIC, UK brakes and good tyres before track daying. Can't afford all that though. My J-Spec Supra TT auto had WI, decent pads and braided hoses, my decat pipes, FCD and decent 16 inch tyres. I did 30 odd track days in under 9 months, it never missed a beat and was otherwise totally stock. Embarassed countless owners of exotica and it cost me only fuel and consumables, so you have no excuse

UK brakes i can sort of understand but you dont need any of that stuff to have fun on a track day! im hopefully doing a day at donnington later this year. i would love to see more supes on track too, they do go round corners very well and it would be good to see more people venturing away from the straight line stuff... Jake
I did 30 odd track days in under 9 months Really? Wow! That's practically one a week! I wish I could do that.
michael
I go when I can but sadly lack the spare funds to go every month
tbourner
UK brakes i can sort of understand but you dont need any of that stuff to have fun on a track day! I'm running lean at 4000-4500 revs since the decat and Walbro, so I NEED a E-Manage (or similar, would rather get an E-Manage though) to sort that out before hard driving for extended periods. I'd rather not run 400bhp in the summer too hard with the stock SMIC, although mine's not in too bad condition so maybe I'd get away with it. My tyres are rubbish hence the spin last month, I'm getting the alignment done when I get the car back but I do NEED new tyres when I get the new wheels on. Bobbeh
I'm off to the best track in the world, I even offered invites to everyone on this board, had one taker (who wont be dissapointed) ... cant do anymore than that. I'd like to do some in this country tho. Maybe find a nice easy/safe track for newbies like myself, for example Brunters, Bedford Autodrome etc etc. Come on Ray
michael
In the years I've been here there has only ever been a small handful of people who take their Supras to the track and really exploit it's potential - it's quite sad really but at the end of the day it all costs money, the days are cheap enough but once you factor in fuel, tyres etc etc it can really add up, especially for the blingy 19" wheel brigade It's one of those things that you do once and then get hooked, a sampler day at a central track with an open pitlane would probably guarantee more addicts in the future... Rob
When I offered Croft to the BBS at £85 last year, I was the only Sup there. A lot of people are too afraid of chipping their paintwork
Chiefgroover
Indeedy, severe lack of Supra's on tracks. 5.1 fluid (forget silicone), higher temp pads, braided flexi's, and your started, Endless CCX are a great track day pad. Thats not expensive, 1/2 to 3/4 tank of fuel and your entry fee. It will wear your tyres a bit but your getting your pounds worth in fun! I'll be out this Sunday, Godwilling if i get this cold shifted, trying to make sure the Supra is the fastest car around the track if possible. Its always good to keep the name of a fantastic car in front :-)
scooby_doo_do
I'd really like to go on a track day but i'm scared of spinning into the gravel or worse, having a car knock into me or vice versa. Whats the best track for a first time track supra? i'm guessing somewhere with a nice run-off in case you loose it..
Bobbeh
Yeah, somewhere flat, open, and with a good variety of bends and straights.. somewhere like Bedford autodrome which has been purposly built for this track day crowd.
SteveR
I will certainly be interested in doing some track days, once I get a Supra (deposit is with Jurgen!) I had a F355/Formula Renault day at Thruxton, you leanred the track in MG ZS(?)180s and I had a few demo laps in a touring car and a pro-driven F355. I *loved* it
Ian C
I have so much bad luck with my car there is no way I'm going on a track to have some twat in a Scooby smack into the back of it and write it off Mine is a fast road weapon thanks, although I'd love to do track stuff I'm not doing it in the most expensive car I have to hand! + paint chips etc etc -Ian
AJI
I do trackdays every month... be it in my GT4. But I am off to the Nurburgring with Bobbeh and his crew in my Supra ! Its the cost of tyres, brake discs, brake pads.... along with the chance your going to get some idiot who doesn't follow the track day rules of where abouts you can/can't overtake that are putting me off using my Supra more often on trackdays. If I had the cash then I'd be doing one every week..... well actually I'd be racing every weekend if I had the cash :-)
Dale B
Did my first Track Day at Bruntingthorpe and loved it. Im going to be doing more, but unless its an organised one thru the BB, I'll be sticking to Croft. Its only 20 minutes down the road and a great track. Bobbeh
Dont worry Aron, no stone chips at the Ring Thats probably an issue due to shoddily maintained airfields. I found last year that people at the Ring are pretty patient, of course you get those trying to do lap records in their little shitboxes, etc, but dont worry about it, just stick to your line and move over when its safe for YOU to. They can wait. My fronts did take a pounding last year, but they still survived, maybe lost 1-2mm of tread from the fronts in total from the day, the rears were relatively unscathed. I do suggest you get some decent (new) rubber on the fronts and not use older tyres if possible due to the amount of stress you put on them with all the braking and cornering. My pads felt fine, although for my cars sake I did rest it after each lap.. also to calm myself down 14 miles of hot/hard driving wears you out. I'm sure a nice tarmac'd place like Bedford would be nice on the car too.
tbourner
I'd also need to get my black brake fluid and gearbox oil changed!!

Dnk
Track days are the best way of enjoying your cars potential, afraid i have silly big 19" wheels now so my tyre bill after a track day just makes it v exspensive, Donnington and Oulton Park are def some of the best places, if i could get hold of used 19" tyres for the right money i'd def be along. My last Donnington day was cheap at £100 for the day + 2 tanks of fuel i got through and the worn out pads but the tyre bill of around £900 is too much. neilg
Ihave done one so far, back end of last year. Looking at booking Croft mid june then donnington a bit later, if booked will post details up and hope some other members tag along. If you enjoy "driving" your car then there is nothing better and like Chris says, your not going to fly round a corner and bump into a camera!
