central locking prob

Recommended Posts

my central locking has been dodgy for a few weeks ie it works when it wants to, but this morning it didn't work at all so i changed the battery in the fob still nothing happened and the interior lock mechanism on the inside of the drivers door has stopped working. I done a search on here and followed instructions on taking the door card off to investigate and found a loose connector (SMALL ONE IN PIC) but i cannot find a corresponding connector for this to go into. I also noticed the the electrical connectors on the inside of the exterior door handle were very damp, would water displacement (WD40) do the trick? please help.

ps no alarm is fitted to the car so its not that causing the problem :(

My central working packed up today. It won't unlock by either the fob or internal switch although it does lock? I think it's the frost and damp. I would make sure it's dry. Clean the connectors as best you can to see if anything happens.

you hit the nail right on the head mate, car was frozen this morning (-4) and nothing worked, after ticking over to defrost and then driving home from work (night shift) the internal switch started to work then it managed to lock using the fob but then after that nothing....:(

anyone got any idea how to drive out the moisture? and keep it dry? apart from garaging it for the winter? i need it as its my daily driver.

thanks in advance

I think it's condensation which forms on the internal parts of the door and water runs down the wires into the connectors. Best bet would be to dry them out and either replace with waterproof connectors or find a way of sealing them. Won't be able to look at my car for the next five days. But it's nice and dry in the garage, will have a look and see if everything works again. If so I will inspect everything, test it and see if I can prevent it from happening again.
