LOL :D

This forum has a good mix of people, knowledge and topics :)

I agree........also

The Supra has had few worthy/affordable successors over the years, so those people have generally stick around.

It's also never been a massive community so its easier to feel part of the it.

i also love this forum... Usually is something of interest always going on, alot of funny characters on here and a few odd balls to balance things out :D its great BUT is it me or do a few of the mods seem to be a bit 'moody' these days :innocent:

i think appearances can be deceiving, Branners post clears it all up for me perfectly :)

Your spam was removed because it was spam. If somebody comes on the forum and spams threads they get banned, you got lucky.

If we turn a blind eye to your spam them we get moaned at for letting you get away with it when others don't.

The forum is moderated hard because thats how it survives. If we let completely pointless posts escalate then the forum just becomes offtopic.com.

This is a car related site, it is not a place for people to preach their views on whatever subject is controversial this week, it also isnt facebook, if you want to tell people what you had for lunch then do it on Facebook. If you want to be funny then be funny, but posting a picture of the dyson fan on as many threads as you can is not funny, it is called spam.

Hope that answers your questions.

It does. And i thank you. Thats all i was after, an explanation. I personally did not see the problem, but then im just one person looking at a screen. You guys on the other hand see a lot more goings on (especially with the report thread button) than we do so i respect your decisions. But, a simple pm with an explanation and a "dont do it again" would have ended this matter a lot sooner. It's also a way to let people know they are in the wrong, just leaving people hanging around for an explanation is verging on rudeness. It came across to me as if you guys (with the exception of one - you know who you are :D) felt i wasnt important enough to respond too. almost as if my thoughts didnt matter. Thats not really buying into club spirit is it?

Anyway, no harm done, i'd hope my thoughts are taken on board.

Thanks again for coming forward with an explanation. It wont happen again :)

My question to you is why do you feel you are so important that we have to moderate your spam and then explain to you why it was taken away? Surely if you had respect for the moderators and the job they do you would have moderated your own actions and not spammed as many threads as you could get to. I felt it was rude of you to do that when you clearly knew it was wrong.

I didnt moderate your thread, I tend to sit back on these things where I can, but as soon as I saw your second posting of the picture I knew it was wrong. I then saw the dare to post in 10 threads and I knew where it would end up. The moderation team did exactly what they needed to. Maybe they should have explained why, but you knew it was wrong so why should they?

And to be blunt, your thoughts stopped mattering when you spammed those threads, as you stopped thinking about the work the mods would have to do to fix it.

This applies to everybody - absolutely none of the moderators are here to be your servants and clear up after any of you. They are not paid to be here, they get no benefits for being moderators except to help club spirit. But oh no, there's no club spirit any more is there?

In all fairness, and i'll be totally honest here, i really did not think it was that big a deal. if people had said to me "wtf are you on" i would have stoppped. i really didnt think it would go so far as to my posts being deleted etc or i really wouldnt have done it. I apologise again for causing any of the mod team any extra work. But, they could have easily stopped it with a simple pm :)

And, if i'd been asked to, or even ordered too - i would have quite hapilly gone back and deleted all the posts myself. wasn't that big a deal to me. im not a rule breaker, generally im quite law abiding and i respect authority. so it seems this whole issue got blown way out of proportion to be honest. there could have been a lot of chances to stop it early on. Agreed it was my stupidity to accept the challenge, but i wasnt told otherwise so i couldnt see iny harm in it myself. but everyones different i suppose.

Anyway, thanks for replying to my pm JB :)

Certainly cleared a lot of things up. One things for sure, we sometimes forget how much time and effort the mod team puts into this place, and without them we'd just be another chav site.

So apologies for any hassle caused guys :)

Hiten55, can i ask why you spammed the threads? do you work for Dyson?

Basically, it started out in cjs "what do i get for xmas" thread. i suggested one of them. then in another thread, the opportunity came up to sugges it again.

Except this time i get challenged (bit tongue in cheek may i add) to see if i can get it into ten posts in one night. not being one to turn down a challenge, and not seeing much harm in it (in hindsight quite stupidly), i accepted. then momentum took over and bobs your unlce. still didnt win a prize though :(

I think it was a competition Dyson were running where entrants enter by posting Dyson pictures on other websites. It's basically a type of user-led viral advertising.

i wish, then maybe i wouldve got something out of it apart from a ticking off :(

I think we should let hiten55 away with it this time rather than ban him JB, it's clearly because he's not been around here very long. A respected long term club member knows better than these pesky 3 yr olds.

:D :eyebrows:

Cheers,

Brian.

erm Thanks Brian. I think

:D

Edit: get used to it - im a fully paid up lifetime member :D:D:D:D

WRT the original thread title, I was actually thinking last night that I'm sick of the bull topics that get started on here, it's like people go looking for the latest news stories & just post them up, a little bit of off-topic is fine but this "one stop shop" is def a negative rather than positive spin,

Very good point Jay. Thats probably the reason i thought mine would be fine. Due to all the other stuff thats generally posted on here, not seeing woods for trees comes to mind.

actually, I love this place for its subtle blend of information, knowledge, sarcasm, eye candy and humor but its a VERY delicate blend of personalities and it only takes one major player to leave and the house of cards will fall.

Its for this reason is believe we should all sign a contract forbidding anyone from leaving.

I'd say its more susceptable to a major personality joining as it upsets the status quo. If one or even a few 'popular' people leave then in a very short amount of time status quo is maintained. Thats not to say they are not missed, but few, if any, impact the whole once departed.

it seems in all the power hungry glory, a few of the mods have forgotten about the actual people who make this forum what it is and that they deserve a bit of respect and courtesy.
I deleted the posts after they were reported as spam. I didn't PM you because I thought it would be obvious why they were deleted. Then Charlotte asked me to PM you, but I was busy dealing with calendars and didn't have time. I haven't been on the forum this weekend until now and was about to PM you but I saw this thread which has hopefully answered all yours concerns anyway, so... well... that's it really.

Yep, Branners has managed to explain everything in his own unique style. BLUNT.

But yeah all fine on my part, apologies for the little rant :)

This is one of only 2 forums I frequently use, and I'm a great fan. However, I'm here for the car stuff, and it really puts me off when I click the "New posts" button, and 70% of the list is from off topic.

On this I agree 100% with Branners in saying:

I must admit I think the nonrelated stuff is taking too much space here, but wouldn't really care about that if we could chance the "New Posts" button to exclude off topics (and maybe For Sale -> Other Items)

What you say?

This place is becoming like Top Gear every day! Irreverent and irrelevant, for some, but very entertaining for others. ;)

In other words, down hill!

I made a suggestion last year to stop posts in non-technical areas counting towards postcount, this could help reduce the amount of cr*p posted, works to some extent on other forums.
