Paul
We've got a Mazda 6 2litre estate, had it from new and it's now just over a couple of years old. Well, it's been a great car until recently when it's having 'off days' with starting. All I get is the dials shooting right over and the starter 'clicking' which I assume to be the battery not having enough guts? Each time I jump start it and all is well, runs fine and goes for a while before playing up again when left for a day or so The battery in it looks cheap, no name OEM one. I'm wondering if it's worth the aggro of taking it back under warranty only to get another crap oem one fitted or to bite the bullet and get a decent higher rated one myself? I had problems over the years with the Supra batteries and finally forked out on a good Bosch one that has served well so thought that doing this with the Mazda might be the way to go? All in all it's also down to short journeys, cold nights and a crap battery (I think). Any advice/comments appreciated
Konrad
Try charging it first and keep an eye on how long it takes to fully charge this battery. If it will be around let's say 1-2 hours it means that battery is simply not holding charge anymore and you can just bin it Bosch is good choice, Halfords Advanced batteries are pretty good too. Thanks, yeah Bosch are good but I'll take a look at the Halfords ones too. I'm willing to take a chance on upgrading anyway as it won't be a bad thing having a decent one for the coming years anyway. Just sick to death having a two year old motor that's otherwise the perfect buy being let down by what I believe to be a crap battery
Havard
Paul, I've got a 58 plate Mazda 6 2.0 sport hatch. Last winter when there were a few really cold nights I noticed that it was a little hesitant to start on a couple of mornings. I do very short journeys. Just out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on the gear box, mine is very notchy. I took it back after having it for two months but was told it was just 'new', but I'm still not convinced. Vicki x No not at all notchy, anything but, very smooth gearbox and everything else is great about the car other than the recent starting issue. If it's still notchy then I'd take it back and ask to drive another they have on the forecourt to compare. As for the batteries it's beginning to look like they just chuck cheapo ones in
creativename
Iv sold new Mazda's for nearly 5 years. This is the biggest problem with them. Your right they put crap ones in at the factory. You should be able to claim a new one under warranty, but they will only change it if it wont hold charge. With regards to the gearbox, the new shape box is quite notchy, to be fair most Mazda box's are notchy, apparently its supposed to feel "sporty" and "zoom-zoom"

Thought so, took a look at the OEM battery and it hasn't even got any spec or details on it??? Looks complete shite:) Now ordered a Bosch Silver S4 battery with a decent CC rating so hopefully that'll sort it. Can't be arsed arguing with the dealer over it only to get another crap one put in it's place. All in all it's a good motor, shame they let it down with basics like this
