Steve
Have had to change my radiator. Questions are: 1. How much water does the system hold? 2. Is the mix for anti-freeze and water 50/50? Thanks
Jake
1, None if you use the proper Toyota Forlife coolant. 2, See
Jake
By the way, you'll need two five litre containers of Forlife
Matt T
During Summer, you really dont need 50/50 ratio, but might as well as it will save you worrying during the winter nights
Steve
Thanks Jake. Do you know cost of the Forlife stuff?

imi
RED for J SPEC and GREEN for UK SPEC - according to Toyota. I paid £14-15 for 5 ltrs.
Homer
Jesus, I paid £8.40 for two 2 litre bottles!
JohnA
In the summer months I very much like to run 80/20 (as in 80% de-ionised water and 20% pure compatible antifreeze for aluminum heads) I've found that it makes a big difference in cooling efficiency, and the partial draining in October to top up the antifreeze is always beneficial. merckx
Anyone know why you should use Forlife stuff instead of normal ethylene glycol based antifreeze? Why Red for J Spec and Green for UK Spec? Also, anyone drained the coolant. How easy is the access to the drain plug on the block? Ta
JohnA
Anyone know why you should use Forlife stuff instead of normal ethylene glycol based antifreeze? According to the manual, ethylene glycol is fine mate. Forlife is mixed with deionised water, which is important to slow down the buildup of scum inside the water jackets. The majority of garages use tap water, don't forget. How easy is the access to the drain plug on the block? I don't think it's easy even to see that plug, let alone undo it But that's no problem, just undo the rad one, drain what you can, fill with deionised water, run it for a few minutes, then drain again. After a couple of times it will all be pure water.
merckx
I don't think it's easy even to see that plug, let alone undo it That's pretty typical then! But that's no problem, just undo the rad one, drain what you can, fill with deionised water, run it for a few minutes, then drain again. After a couple of times it will all be pure water. Cheers, that's what I normally do. I've already got some ethylene glycol based antifreeze, no way I'm spending three times as much for the Forlife stuff - waste of money! Paul
Yeah, why not red for UK? I've just had my UK system changed from red to red again! Paul
JustGav
I could be speaking out of turn but I was informed a while back... That the difference between red and green was there because of the manufacturing differences in the heads now... and that the green can possible corrode it... Dunno... I've always stuck with the red stuff... Gav
Zed
I use Toyota Red coolant (not Forlife) also used to use the same in my Celica GT4, no problems whatsoever. I'm sure you should only use red as green is not suitable for higher performance cars.

IMHO it should come out as there is a lot of coolant in there.
