Homer
My Sky+ box is near death so might as well change to HD. However I'm not too happy with the options Sky give on this... To change to HD costs: £49 for the box £60 installation charge plus the £10 per month charge for HD (which I'm not too bothered about) Is there a better options available to cut the install cost? They do the HD pack plus movies but give a free box away and cut the installation to £30 (bloody rip off merchants!). I don't want movies, just the basic pack and a Sky box that will last more than 6 months.
Terminator
We don't have the HD package because it is a rip off. We can watch the BBC HD channel and any other free ones. The HD box is much better than the old Sky Plus. Our Sky+ used to freeze all the time. So far (one year) we have had no problems with the HD box. Sky have just caught up with Virgin and use half the disc drive to record programs you might want to watch, wait for it, mostly HD:(. Have you considered just getting an HD box from elsewhere. Mine did not come from Sky:D
Todd
My Sky+ box is near death You not just slap a new HD in it?
Homer
Thanks Termi, I'd looked at some options from ebay, etc but the thought of getting yet another dodgy sky box puts me off. I don't mind the HD extra per month, don't watch much TV but the stuff that I do watch tends to be available on HD, might as well make use of the TV! You not just slap a new HD in it? Fan is making a LOT of noise too, plus the box has been nightmare, so many problem with freezing, overheating, etc.
Jake
My Sky+ box is near death so might as well change to HD. However I'm not too happy with the options Sky give on this... To change to HD costs: £49 for the box £60 installation charge £60 to unplug one box and replace it with another? Both Sky+ and SkyHD have dual feeds from the dish. What's the £60 for? We have 2 HD boxes, HD is OK but I wouldn't pay more than £10/month for it. If they put the price up next year I'll just cancel it.
Homer
£60 to unplug one box and replace it with another? Both Sky+ and SkyHD have dual feeds from the dish. What's the £60 for? That's what's winding me up Jake, the £49 charge for the box is fine, but the £60 to install it is an utter rip off. The local Sky installer only live 10 doors away too, but he can't do anything without a workorder from Sky...
jim
I phoned them a few months ago when I was ready to order HD Darryl, and made enquiries about how much etc. They gave me the same prices and said they wouldn't budge so I asked to be put through to the cancellations department and was convincing enough (gave them the whole 'I've been a customer for years on the full package' speil) to get them to give me a free box and installation, and just have to pay the £10 extra a month. I've heard that this has sometimes backfired though, and they've said ok when will we cancel it from, but I imagine it's all down to how believeable you can be. Bound to be worth a go bud, you've nothing to lose. It took an hour on the phone though
Homer
Thanks Jim, good suggestion and is certainly worth a try Always got the back out option if the BS fails!
michael
When they fitted my HD box (for free) they put a new LNB on and replaced the cables into the house, it increased the reported signal strength and signal quality but that could just be a con and the HD box might just pump up the indicators to pretend it's clever. jim
Same here, they replaced the dish and cables, tracked the phone line extension round the skirting board too.
RiceRocket
Can't you just buy the box only from Sky and add HD pack to your subscription?
