hodge
I snapped my achilies tendon in a karate comp a couple of weeks ago and had my leg put in plaster. Well I went to get my plaster off today. Couldnt wait. All went well, straight in and had the cast taken off then back to see the consultant. I needed a moon boot type thing I was told but they didnt have my size. Are they mad So he decided to send me back to get another plaster on for another week until they can get me a boot. Im well Pi#$ed off. This sets me back another week as the boot has to be on for 8 weeks. This means its gona take even longer to get back to fitness and ready to fight again. Anyways te NHS aint me friend at the minuite im in the huff lol. Rant over.

Westcoaster
Hang on, our taxes have to pay for a special shoe for you because you got a kicking at a karate competition! How is that the fault of the NHS?
Lbm
Sounds more like a typical martial arty bloke moaning about a self inflicted injury. http://www.bupa.co.uk edit:or get better at Karate.
hodge
I'm a size 10 shoe not uncommon at all. I'm moaning that they new my shoe size when I got the plaster on, odviously, knew I was going to get it off, wasted my time going there, wasted there time and money taking it off and putting a new 1 back on. Was totally warm and stretched off too. edit:or get better at Karate. Well I havnt done to bad seems I have English, National, European and world titles. Jay_vr6
ahh man you'll love the shoe when it comes, I had one a few years ago after wrecking my ankles in an unfortunate caravan diving incident, bloody thing is huge and makes you look like a proper plum but has lots of velcro straps to play with

sdistc
Did they not replaster you 3 or 4 times, changing the angle of your ankle each time?!? You sound like you're going to have a fun 6 months of rehab.

You sound like you're going to have a fun 6 months of rehab. That's what the boot is for. It's got a dial on it that you can alter the angle of my food, which gets done weekly then lots b lots of physio. Once I get the boot off I'll be back to work I hope. Ain't got any fight vids unfortunatlly. It's my biggest regret really. I retired 2 years ago but came back to fight 2 of my students/team mates. I lost 11kg for the comp but it wasn't to be I suppose. Fingers crossed I'll be back for next november so I can knock the crap out of these too mugs n retire n get on with my life LOL so to speak. steady_dave
You can't expect then to stock 1000's of each size. If they've run out they've run out, not there fault. The NHS does what it does on a budget given to them which they have to stick to. Don't understand the rants about teh NHS seeing as we are the fortunate wou don't have to pay for this service. Oh, I know how the boot vs plaster works. In my experience, there's too many variables (i.e. too many things that can go wrong by trusting patients to not muck it up ) when using the walkboot. But, given the elite sports history you are probably the small percent of highly motivated, self-aware and obedient patients that will benefit from the early rehab opportunity given by the walkboot. Are you going to a private physio, or NHS?

Oh and been running my own martial arts busines since 1986. Anyway, the point being is to go private instead of using NHS resources. Edit: You can probably purchase personal accident inurance which should take care of medical bills incurred etc...probably less than £100 pa. Maybe worth it if you are continuing to compete. benkei
I snapped my achilies tendon. Ouch! Whenever I hear of people tearing muscles and ligaments I always imagine it must hurt LOT! Injuries suck, hope it mends well OK Champ, that's great. But I've never heard of you. I worked with a guy once who claimed to be a Martial Arts champion... I'd never heard of him either lol. The people he was bragging to/trying to impress weren't martial asrtists or even into it, so they wouldn't know either way... I could smell BS though. Oh and been running my own martial arts busines since 1986. I didn't know this Lbm? What is it you do?

I don't doubt Hodge for a minute btw It's just with martial arts styles and clubs not being unified as they're soooo numerous, one man's European or even World champion is another man's Whoopee-do! Whoopee-do is not a martial art - for the record. I remember fighting a European Chapmpion in about 1986 and I beat him quite easily - He wasn't very good, nor was I. I didn't know this Lbm? What martial arts business is it? It's my business I've been running with my business partner and together we have taught around 25,000 people between the two of us. I guess we've had around 150 clubs of one sort or another on the go over the last 23 years. You won't see us in magazines, on the tele or even on the net - we don't live in those glamorous places. Oh and it's teaching self-defence, but my actual thing is Ving Tsun. (Wing Chun)

Scoboblio
I'm moaning that they new my shoe size when I got the plaster on, odviously, knew I was going to get it off, wasted my time going there, wasted there time and money taking it off and putting a new 1 back on. Perfectly legitimate moan IMO. Yes, it's great to have a 'free' health care system and we should all be grateful for it, but stuff like this just wastes time and money. No matter why it's happened or who it's happened to (they were probably just too busy treating patients to even think about checking whether they had the correct sized shoe in stock) it's a bad waste. Your right there are loads of cowboy clubs out there who are claiming they have world this and european that yeah whatever. personally if you have heard of me or not is irelevent seems your talking about a totally different martial art to me. But just for the record I assure you im no cowboy. So please dont put me in the same catagory as all those retards who want everyone to think there someone but are not and will never be good enough to win anything of any standard on a decent stage and NOT in there own club orginised by there own instructor and there instructors friends. I represented the EKGB (English karate Govening Body) for years who are now the EKF (English karate Federation). Which I would like to point out that this is the only karate organisation in England recognised Sport England and national lottery funding. I faught along side the likes of Wayne Otto, Ian Cole Willie Thomas etc etc. If you havnt heard of those in your welth of martial arts experience then I would question your own credibility. But thanks for your input anyway. I wasnt complaining they didnt have a boot to fit I was complaining they wasted time and money removing a plaster, alocating me time for a consultant, and replastering my just because no-one checked to see if they had the correct equipment before I came for my appointment as they inquired about my shoe size when I was initially there. If you re-read my post you'll see I didn't put you in the cowboy category And no, I haven't heard of these people, as I don't have an interest in Karate in any way. It's only one of many arts, but I'm fine with my credibilty as are my thousands of customers, and the well known people that have trained myself over the years. I won't mention their names, because you probably wouldn't have heard of them either - So fear not, my wealth of experience is clearly not in question. Hope you get a new boot soon.
