a98pmalcolm
Hay all I was just reading a thread and some one mentioned that the TT supra turbos are the same size... I would have though one is smaller than the other to spool quicker for the low revs! So is it just the Sequential System that makes the 2nd turbo cut in? Thanks Paul
Tricky-Ricky
Thats quite correct, a lot of people are under the misconception than one is bigger, but its all done by the sequential system, some clever stuff back when it was devised. adnanshah247
as far as i know, two turbos one being smaller is called something like a Bi-Turbo. smaller turbo is for quicker boost and take off while the big one opens the gates to hell when the cars running and ready spooled. Branners
It takes all the airflow from 6 cylinders and pushes it through one turbo which is why it spools so early, it then prespools the second turbo by opening a small valve to let the turbo spin up, then opens the valve fully to let the airflow run to both turbos. Im sure they spent millions designing and building it, and the single turbo chaps just throw it away for a truck turbo (only joking chaps... )
nevins
I always thought that they were different sizes TBH, what thread was it do you have a link to it.
a98pmalcolm
ah ok cool, thanks for the replys all, erm there is a way of bypassing the Sequential System so both turbos run together which is whats on Hecklers personal website http://www.internetwork.org.uk/mechanical/ttc/ttc.htm Anyone think that worth it? Thanks Paul
Kirk
correct me if im wrong but the current 535d bmw's use this same method only with different sized turbos
stinboy
I've heard no - it's the same argument i suppose as why did they spend millions on the system in the first place? Either keep as is, bpu, hybrids (unreliable but do sound tempting) or single.

Not in my experience, I hate TTC as do a majority of TT owners I know that have tried it. Exhaust note is horrible sub 4k rpm, EGBV rattles like hell, loss of that low down torque/spool. It does spool very fast once online, but that's more seat of the pants feeling rather than actual performance over the sync system. Single is a different matter, it means the BIG torque starts much sooner than the sync or TTC system can allow. It costs a LOT of money so is only really for the wealthy guys

Jake
I was just reading a thread and some one mentioned that the TT supra turbos are the same size...Which thread? ---------------- Stock Sequential TT: Good Parallel TT on stock ECU: Been there, Barpole. Hybrid stock turbos: Minor short term gains, major long term hassle and expense. Big Single: Great, IF done right. Very expensive to do right. Big Twins: I don't see the point but kinda cool if you have very deep pockets
James
I have no TTC desire whatsoever - totally love the power delivery from the stock sequential setup. I'd love to be taken out in a singled Supe at some point to see what it feels like though
tbourner
Surely they CAN'T be different sizes, cos when all valves are open the inlet and outlet of the 2 turbos are linked? The small one would just stall wouldn't it?
AlexJames
I love TTC ... however, mine is done electronically, so I can turn it back if I want to

I liked TTC when I ran it for a while, and I thought you got more torque low down in TTC ? I liked the deeper sound that TTC made EGBV rattle ?? The only reason I wouldnt run it long term now is because of the spike you get around when no.2 would normally be.....

I'm sure there were some plots somewhere (from Chris Wilson?) that showed you gain absolutely nothing from TTC, it just feels different (some say better, some don't). Branners
I found that TTC on a UK spec 6sp made it a better drive. The heavier turbos seem to respond better. Really gave the car some oompf.

I agree! i think TTC is only for 6 speeds, and i have used TTC with j spec, UK spec and hybrids, i liked the power delivery with all, but it seemed better with UK and hybrids.
