devan Posted November 26, 2009 Share Posted November 26, 2009 When i took my headlamp units out the other week, i was looking at the front of the airbox, and noticed that the air intake pipe thing which goes into the stock airbox is in a place where i didnt think it would of been. I just assumed that the pipe would start at the airbox, and then extend downwards and have its 'intake' end sitting just behind the front bumper air scoop bits. But instead, the intake part is just sat underneath the headlight, surely the engine would get a better supply of air, if the pipe was exposed to the air directly, like i said, sat just behind a scoop in the front bumper. I have seen threads on cold air feeds for aftermarket air filters, but just wandered if anybody has tried setting up the stock airbox to a direct air supply/feed thing. The key to performance is having a cold air source which is why the vents for the filter box are outside the engine bay. The reason there isn't a direct source from an exposed area is due to the crap that would get *forced* into the intake. Both in the way that an engine works and your understanding of it. The induction areas are those that are in an area that is out of the way of impact but crucially under positive pressure. No measurable postive performance will happen after moving the induction area to one in a forced airflow. It'll only result in forgien objects getting sucked into the filter. The headlight removal only works for massive HP single/twin cars due to the fact they are only doing a short run and need HUGE airflow. The intake air going into the engine flows through it and is cooled down by air passing over the intercooler like a normal car radiator.
