Chris Wilson
Watch the speedo rise, that is sheer unadulterated brute power. Not bad for a seventies car with a (*BIG*) pushrod V8 Chevy. Imagine that under the bonnet of a lightened N/A If I won the lottery I can think of worse ways to kill myself

Thorin
1019BHP if the text on the video is to be believed (I don't doubt it's running some serious power after watching that!)... Naturally aspirated. Yeah that'd be fun.

Chris Wilson
They gave a genuine 800 flywheel BHP in their heyday, over 1000BHP per ton. So a 1500 Kg/s Supra would need over 1,650 BHP for the same power to weight ratio. Plus they carried a LOT of rubber and had a LOT of downforce. A fabulous era. There's one running in Europe with 10 litres, plus a 7 litre turbo one still in the UK I think. They fetch BIG money. This isn't a particularly well historied one: http://www.race-cars.com/carsales/mclaren/1205621860/1205621860ss.htm

Chris Wilson
You also have about 30 gallons of high octane on each side of you, which focuses the mind, these were built for lightness, driver safety wasn't anything any self respecting race car designer worried about in the early seventies I n case anyon's thinking an 8 litre Can Am V8 only needs a dinky oil cooler, that think hanging on the back is the GEARBOX cooler
Chris Wilson
... is that Brands Hatch? Road America, USA. I will have a look for some video of Can-Am cars on bigger circuits, they used to easily pull 200 MPH on a decent straight.
pistonbroke
That Road America straight isn't short, it's just that the car despatches it in seconds. What an awesome machine. It really is a case of 'They don't build em like they used to'

Homer
And to think you dismissed my idea of fitting a BBC to a Supra Still got it sitting out the back though, so not gone off it yet
